John Donne
多恩（John Donne，1572-1631），英國十七世紀“玄學派”詩歌的代表。他的詩歌以愛情詩和宗教詩為主，詩中充滿奇特的比喻，令人驚訝、新奇，其中表達出對他人生、社會等問題的看法。多恩的思想始終充滿矛盾、詩歌中常流露出困惑、思索和懷疑，獨具特色。詩中有關神學、哲學的思辨，打破了當時甜蜜華麗的抒情詩風，給人以豐富的聯(lián)想和新鮮感。18、19世紀的詩人多不贊賞他的詩風，認為是“濫用智力”。20世紀初，他的詩歌又一次得到稱贊，并被視為英美現(xiàn)代派詩歌的淵源。
正像善良人謝世，挺平和，
As virtuous men pass mildly away,
對自己的靈魂低聲說，走，
And whisper to their souls, to go,
悲傷的朋友們在旁邊，有的說，
Whilst some of their sad friends do say
他停止呼吸了，有的說，沒有。
The breath goes now, and some say "no";
讓我們溶化吧，不聲張，不必
So let us melt, and make no noise,
淚如泉涌，悲嘆如狂風，
No tear-floods nor sigh-tempests move;
這樣是褻瀆我們的欣喜，
Twere profanation of our joys
如果對俗子講我們的愛情。
To tell the laity our love.
地動會帶來恐懼和災難，
Moving of th'earth brings harms and fears,
人們估量這意味著什么，
Men reckon what it did and meant;
但是許多天體的震顫
But trepidation of the spheres,
卻無礙，盡管劇烈得多。
Though greater far, is innocent .
塵世間凡俗的男女相愛
Dull sublunary lovers'love

A breach, but an expansion,

Like gold to airy thinness beat.

If they be two, they are two so

As stiff twin compasses are two;

Thy soul, the fixed foot, makes no show
另只腳動了，它其實也在轉。
To move, but doth, if th'other do.
圓心腳固然總坐在中心，
And though it in the centre sit,
可只要圓周腳去天涯浪跡，
Yet when the other far doth roam ,
它也就側身向前去傾聽，
It leans, and harkens after it,
圓周腳回到家，它立即站直。
And grows erect as that comes home.
你對我就是這樣，我正如
Such wilt thou be to me, who must
圓周腳，傾斜著身子奔跑；
Like th'other foot, obliquely run;
你堅定，我畫圓圈準無誤，
Thy firmness makes my circle just,
準會在起跑的地方停下腳。
And makes me end where I begun.
