譚嗣同（1865年3月10日—1898年9月28日），字復(fù)生，號壯飛，湖南瀏陽人，中國近代著名政治家、思想家，維新派人士。其所著的《仁學(xué)》，是維新派的第一部哲學(xué)著作，也是中國近代思想史中的重要著作。譚嗣同早年曾在家鄉(xiāng)湖南倡辦時務(wù)學(xué)堂、南學(xué)會等，主辦《湘報》，又倡導(dǎo)開礦山、修鐵路，宣傳變法維新，推行新政。1898年（光緒二十四年），譚嗣同參加領(lǐng)導(dǎo)戊戌變法，失敗后被殺，年僅33歲，為“戊戌六君子”之一。

小樓人影倚高空，目盡疏林夕照中。
為問西風(fēng)竟何著，輕輕吹上雁來紅。

T'an Ssu-T'ung
On a small balcony, the shadow of someone leaning against the tall sky;
In the distance, the sparse forest in twilight's glow.
Let me ask what the west wind is really doing:
To blow so gently, reddening the aramanth blossoms.

1. Yen-lai hung: literally, "wild geese come red," or Amaranthus tricolor, with showy red flowers resembling the cockscomb. Because its flowering season is in late fall, it is also called lao shao-nien (youthful-looking old man) in the eastern part of China.
