劉長(zhǎng)卿，唐河間（現(xiàn)屬河北）人，一說(shuō)宣城（現(xiàn)屬安徽）人，河間為其郡望，字文房。這首詩(shī)是贈(zèng)送退伍軍人李中丞，贊揚(yáng)他久經(jīng)沙聲，忠勇為國(guó)，感傷他老來(lái)流落的境遇。首聯(lián)先寫(xiě)李氏曾是十萬(wàn)大軍將帥，而老來(lái)流落；三、四兩聯(lián)寫(xiě)他廉潔奉公和忠心耿耿；末聯(lián)寫(xiě)江漢茫茫，年紀(jì)老邁，將“欲何之”？全詩(shī)對(duì)久經(jīng)沙場(chǎng)，晚淪江漢的老將，寄予無(wú)限的同情。

Relieved of office he no longer possesses a manor;

In old age, he still cherishes these days of wise government

His presence alone ensured peace on the frontiers,

And his sword self-sacrificing valour witnessed.

But where will he drift on the hazy expanse

Of Jiang-Han1, when the sun is in the low west?
