清夜沉沉，

Flowers fall ’neath the eaves, in the dark crickets weep.

暗蛩啼處檐花明。

Curtains so chill,

乍涼簾幕，

Incense rises around the screen, atop its hill.

香繞屏山角。

I dislike the message-bearing wild geese:

堪恨歸鴻，

Their feeling as shallow as autumn cloud would freeze.

情似秋云薄。

To whom may I my letter confide?

書難托，

Lonely, I can only put it aside,

盡交寂寞，

Forgetting I have former promise to keep.
