25. Cretin

 cretin 可憎的人，注定失敗的人，不會辦事的人，白癡，呆子，俗氣的人，感覺遲鈍的人

cretinous錯誤的，愚蠢的

Cretin此字被認(rèn)為是損人的俚語(offensive slang)。當(dāng)名詞時，字義為“患發(fā)育不良的白癡癥(cretinism)者”；當(dāng)形容詞時，指“錯誤的”，“愚蠢的”。因語氣損人，正式社交場所不宜使用。

5. this twisted cretin 指某不受歡迎的訪客。

A. Documentation that has been obsessively dumbed down1，to the point where only a cretin could bear to read it，is said to have succumbed to the “drool-proof paper syndrome2”…. 注：

1. be obsessively dumbed down 使太過平庸。按此風(fēng)在美國工商及教育等界方興未艾，唯恐讀者看不懂內(nèi)容，盡量降低其復(fù)雜性，避免咬文嚼字，以便最低教育程度的人都能看懂。此舉常引起知識分子的譏諷。

2. drool-proof paper syndrome 無咬文嚼字毛病的文件。

2. come out 此處借“出來”作“登臺”解。文中coming out是動名詞短語，作賓語用。

3. flinging this in people’s faces 以“扔到人的臉上”喻“面對聽眾演奏”。
