Boob 當名詞，作“酥胸”解，通常用復數(shù)，是俚語，又是貶抑字眼，亦作“呆頭呆腦的人”解。boob 當動詞通常后隨副詞 up 作“笨拙地修補，糟?！苯猓?boob things up(把事情弄糟了)。 boob 是不登大雅之堂的俚語，正式社交場所奉勸避免使用，雅士淑女尤然。

A. “I wanted the pink Power Ranger not the yellow ranger，” a girl whines.“I want the ranger with boobs.”

一個女孩子哭訴著：“我要的是粉紅色大力游騎兵，不要黃色的。我要有大奶的那個游騎兵嘛?！?

B. “The pink ranger is not out2 until next week，” the mother answers.“I got you3 the yellow ranger with breasts. We don’t say boobs.”

注：

1. 小女兒吵著要有大奶的娃娃，媽媽除安慰她外，并矯正她的用詞。

2. is(not) out until next week out此處為“推出”，“上市”之意。 until next week“要等到下周才……”或“直到下周為止”，是時間副詞短語。

3. got you 給你買了…… 為 got (something) for you 的口語簡化。

在美國，隆乳手術很普遍。

1. dangerous 喻“萬一說錯話，影響到自己的面子及前途”。

2. TV pundit 在美國，電視上的新聞分析節(jié)目不勝枚舉，常請各界飽學之士來發(fā)表高見。

A. Anyone in a sensitive1 public position expects to be called a boob from time to time，especially after a major shift in party control. As in New York State，villifying your predecessor is a time-honored way2 to gain time while your own people figure out the location of the proverbial restroom.3

1. sensitive 以“敏感的”隱喻“容易引起注意的”。

2. time-honored way 已行之良久的辦法。

3. figure out the location of the proverbial restroom “摸清廁所在哪里”。proverbial是“眾人皆知的”之意，并非“諺語”(proverb)。以新人應摸清“廁所在哪里”，來引喻“熟悉新環(huán)境”。

A. But even in politics，there are limits to mudslinging. Not only were we1 boobs，it seems，but we were thieves and liars.
