In 1992 a British archaeologist, Howard Carter, ;1922年英國考古學(xué)家 霍華德.卡特
was working in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. ;在埃及的國王谷工作.
One day he asked his labourers to pull down a small hut which was in his way. ;有一天,他叫工人把 一間擋道的小屋推倒.

This is how our own experiment was performed. ;下面是我們自己的 實驗過程:
A dark,moonless night was chosen and the curtains were drawn ;選擇一個黑暗無月光的 夜晚,拉上窗簾,
so that no light could enter from outside. ;使外邊光照不進(jìn)來.
Half a dozen people were asked to sit round a table in the middle of the room. ;請6個人坐在房間中間的 桌旁.
A table-lamp was placed in the centre of the table. ;桌子的中央放一盞臺燈.
When everyone was seated,the lamp was turned off for ten minutes. ;待每人就座后, 熄燈10分鐘.
Everyone sat in complete darkness and looked towards the lamp ;大家坐在一片漆黑中朝著 燈看,
till they got quite used to the darkness. ;直到完全習(xí)慣于黑暗.
They sat perfectly still and kept looking in exactly the same direction. ;大家一動不動地坐著, 一直朝同一方向看.

Shortly afterwards, the whole scene became visible in the darkness. ;不一會整個景象即可在 黑暗中見到.
