雙語笑話：律師與農(nóng)場主

The Lawyer and the Rancher

A big-city lawyer was representing the railroad in a lawsuit filed by an old rancher．The rancher’s bull was missing from the section through which the railroad passed．The rancher claimed that the bull must have been hit by the train，and wanted to be paid the fair value of the bull．

The case was scheduled to be tried before the justice of the peace in the backroom of the general store．

As soon as the rancher showed up，the attorney for the railroad pulled him aside and tried to get him to settle out of court．The lawyer did his best selling job，and finally the rancher agreed to take half of what he was asking．

After the rancher had signed the release and took the check，the young lawyer couldn’t resist gloating a little over his success，telling the rancher，“You know，I hate to tell you this，old man，but I put one over on you in there．I couldn’t have won the case．The engineer was asleep and the fireman was in the caboose when the train went through your ranch that morning．I didn’t have one witness to put on the stand．I bluffed you！”

The old rancher replied，“Well，I’ll tell you，young feller．I was a little worried about winning that case myself，because that darned bull came home this morning．

律師與農(nóng)場主

來自大城市的一位律師受鐵路方面委托，與一位農(nóng)場主打官司。后者的一頭公牛經(jīng)過鐵路線后就失蹤了。農(nóng)場主認(rèn)為他的牛一定是被火車撞死了，要求鐵路方面給與公正的賠償。

該案件將由治安法官在當(dāng)?shù)匕儇浬痰甑睦镩g進(jìn)行審判。

農(nóng)場主剛到，鐵路方面的律師就把他拉到一旁，希望能和他達(dá)成庭外和解。律師的口才非常出色，最終農(nóng)場主同意把賠償額減少一半。

農(nóng)場主在放棄上訴的文件上簽字，拿到支票以后，年輕的律師情不自禁地想夸耀自己的成功。他告訴農(nóng)場主道：“你知道，老人家，我本來不想告訴你這些，但我確實欺騙了你。按理我是打不贏這場官司的。那天早上，當(dāng)火車穿過你農(nóng)場的時候，司機(jī)正在睡覺，而司爐工卻在最后一節(jié)車廂里。因此，我們沒有目擊證人。我欺騙了你！”

老農(nóng)場主答道：“好吧，我也告訴你，年輕人，我對自己能否打贏這場官司也不是很有把握，因為今天早上那頭該死的?；貋砹?。”
