智利沿海發(fā)生大地震

A massive earthquake has struck off the coast of Chile.

智利海岸發(fā)生強烈地震。

Just before 5am on Monday (NZ Time), a large 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit 67km west of Constitucion, Chile at a depth of 9.8km, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) says. The USGS initially recorded the shake as a 7.2 magnitude quake.

美國地質(zhì)調(diào)查局(USGS)表示，就在周一(新西蘭時間)凌晨5點前，智利康斯特西翁以西67公里處發(fā)生里氏6.8級大地震，震源深度為9.8公里。美國地質(zhì)勘探局最初將這次地震記錄為7.2級地震。

The United States National Weather Service's Tsunami Warning System said at 5:20am that there was no tsunami warning, advisory, watch, or threat in place.

美國國家氣象局的海嘯預(yù)警系統(tǒng)在凌晨5點20分表示，沒有海嘯預(yù)警、咨詢、監(jiān)視或威脅。

Due to the earthquake striking off the coast, there were no immediate reports of damage or injury. Hundreds of people have reported feeling the quake, however.

A 4.7 magnitude earthquake followed about 40 minutes afterwards.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reports a person in Constitucion as saying: "Very strong movement".

Another person in Concepcion told the centre: "[It was] very strong, long in time, and even after two minutes, the earth seemed to move."

Many posted on Twitter videos of lights and chandeliers swinging around.

Chile has a deadly history with earthquakes. Located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, the country was devastated in 2010 when an 8.8 magnitude quake hit off the coast, triggering a large tsunami.
