法國巴黎街頭爆發(fā)50年來最嚴(yán)重騷亂

French President Emmanuel Macron is seeking ways to defuse nationwide protests over high living costs that led to widespread rioting in Paris over the weekend.

法國民眾對高昂生活成本的全國性抗議演變成了周末巴黎的大范圍騷亂，法國總統(tǒng)埃馬紐埃爾·馬克龍正尋求平息途徑。

The "yellow vest" revolt caught Macron unawares when it erupted on Nov 17 and poses a formidable challenge to the 40-year-old as he tries to counter a plunge in popularity over his economic reforms, which are seen as favoring the wealthy.

Riot police were overrun over the weekend as protesters wrought havoc in Paris's fanciest neighborhoods, torching cars, looting boutiques and smashing up luxury private homes and cafes in the worst disturbances the capital has seen since 1968.

More than 100 people were injured and 412 have been arrested.

The core demand of the "yellow vest" movement is a freeze on further planned fuel tax increases and measures to bolster spending power.

The French government will suspend a fuel tax rise which were due in January, local media reported on Tuesday.
