澳大利亞警方挫敗炸毀飛機恐怖陰謀

Australian security agencies said on Sunday they had thwarted an alleged terrorist plot to “bring down” an airplane and arrested four suspects following raids in Sydney.

澳大利亞安全機構(gòu)周日表示，他們挫敗了一起涉嫌“炸毀”飛機的恐怖主義陰謀，并在悉尼采取一系列突擊逮捕行動后抓獲了四名嫌犯。

Malcolm Turnbull, Australia’s prime minister, said extra security screening measures were being introduced at the nation’s airports but advised travellers to go about their business “with confidence”.

“I can report last night that there has been a major joint counterterrorism operation to disrupt a terrorist plot to bring down an airplane,” said Mr Turnbull. “The operation is continuing.”

Police in Australia say they have foiled more than a dozen terrorist attacks in recent years, including a planned Christmas Day attack on Melbourne in 2016 and a plot to kill police officers last year on Anzac Day, the April 25 public holiday to commemorate those in Australia and New Zealand who fought and died for their country.

More than a 100 people have left Australia in recent years to fight in Syria alongside terrorist organisations, including Islamic State, according to the authorities.

Andrew Colvin, Australian Federal Police commissioner, said the security agencies believed the proposed terrorist action against an aviation target was “Islamic-inspired terrorism”.

澳大利亞聯(lián)邦警察局長安德魯•科爾文(Andrew Colvin)表示，安全機構(gòu)認(rèn)為，針對航空目標(biāo)的恐怖主義行動計劃是“受伊斯蘭激勵的恐怖主義”。

“In recent days, law enforcement has become aware of information that suggested some people in Sydney were planning to commit a terrorist act using an improvised device,” he said during a press conference, where he stood alongside Mr Turnbull.

在特恩布爾的陪同下，科爾文在新聞發(fā)布會上表示：“最近幾天，執(zhí)法部門掌握的信息表明，有些人正在悉尼計劃用簡易爆炸裝置進行恐怖主義活動。”

“At this time we don’t have a great deal of information on the specific attack, the location, date or time. However, we are investigating information indicating that the aviation industry was potentially a target,” he said.
