《王者榮耀》成全球營收最高游戲

Honour of Kings, a Chinese fantasy battle game for mobile phones made by internet group Tencent, converted its more than 50m-strong army of daily active users into revenue of up to Rmb6bn ($876m) in the first quarter, making it the world’s top-grossing game according to analysts.

一些分析師稱,今年第一季度,互聯(lián)網(wǎng)集團騰訊(Tencent)制作的中國幻想戰(zhàn)斗手游《王者榮耀》(Honour of Kings)將其逾5000萬日活躍用戶轉化為了至多60億元人民幣(合8.76億美元)營收,這令這款游戲成為全球收入最高的游戲。

“The real income of Honour of Kings in the first quarter of 2017 could be around Rmb6bn,” said Benjamin Wu, an analyst at digital consultancy Pacific Epoch.

Chinese gaming consultancy CNG estimates the game’s first-quarter revenue at Rmb5.5bn-Rmb6bn. Nearly all of that was from China.

By comparison, the top-grossing game in Apple’s iOS App Store and Google’s Play store in the first quarter of this year, Japan’s Monster Strike, grossed about $300m worldwide, according to App Annie, which tracks app performance.

That figure does not take into account how much is spent on gaming in mainland China, where access to Google Play is blocked and alternative app stores proliferate.

The title’s sales underline the scale of China’s gaming sector, the world’s largest, which is projected to account for $27.5bn of industry revenues this year — a quarter of the global total, according to consultancy NewZoo.

Tencent said last month that it generated Rmb12.9bn from online games in the first quarter, but it does not disclose revenue figures for individual titles. It declined to comment on the third-party estimates of the game’s sales.

Honour of Kings is based on League of Legends, a popular team battle game from US developer Riot Games, which was a hit in China. Tencent acquired the studio in 2011.

Adding references to Chinese history and myth and adapted for mobile phones, the game quickly caught on, adding active daily users at a rate of 5m a month last year.

The pace of user growth has slowed this year, but Everbright Securities, a Chinese brokerage, estimates the game has more than 60m daily active users.

Although most of China’s mobile gamers use Android phones, spending by mostly Chinese iPhone users propelled Honour of Kings to become the highest-grossing title worldwide on Apple’s store worldwide last month, according to App Annie, a first for a Chinese game.

按照App Annie的說法,雖然中國多數(shù)手游玩家用Android手機,但上月以中國iPhone用戶為主的玩家在《王者榮耀》上的花費,助推這款游戲成為蘋果應用商店中全球收入最高的游戲。

China’s official Securities Times newspaper last week also reported first-quarter revenue of Rmb6bn for Honour of Kings, adding that it has a higher turnover than all but 189 of the country’s 3,268 A-share listed companies.

中國官方的《證券時報》(Securities Times)上周也報道稱《王者榮耀》一季度營收達60億元人民幣,并稱在中國3268家A股上市企業(yè)中,只有189家的營業(yè)收入不低于這款游戲。

The game has a strong emphasis on teamwork. Hong Yuhan, a 24-year-old media professional, said he spent Rmb1,000 on virtual items in the game in the last two months, saying he played to keep in touch with old friends and make new ones. “Social is the DNA of Tencent,” he added.

這款游戲很強調(diào)團隊合作。24歲的媒體專業(yè)人士洪雨涵(音譯)表示,過去兩個月他在這款游戲虛擬物品上的花費達1000元人民幣。他說自己玩這款游戲是為了與老朋友保持聯(lián)絡并結交新朋友。他還表示:“社交是騰訊的DNA。”

Tencent reportedly showered the game’s 30-strong development team with a Rmb100m bonus this year. Team leader Yao Xiaoguang bought a penthouse in Hong Kong’s second-tallest luxury block this year for HK$98m (US$12.6m).

Tencent last month released a test version of an English-language version of the game aimed at western audiences, renamed Strike of Kings.

上月,騰訊發(fā)布了面向西方玩家的英文版《王者榮耀》的測試版,并將其重命名為《Strike of Kings》。
