　　復(fù)旦大學(xué)創(chuàng)建于1905年，原名復(fù)旦公學(xué)。“復(fù)旦”二字選自《尚書大傳·虞夏傳》中‘舊月光華，旦復(fù)旦兮”的名句，意在自強(qiáng)不息，寄托當(dāng)時(shí)中國(guó)知識(shí)分子自主辦學(xué)、教育強(qiáng)國(guó)的希望。一個(gè)世紀(jì)以來(lái)，尤其是通過(guò)國(guó)家教育部和上海市共同建設(shè)，復(fù)旦大學(xué)逐步發(fā)展成為一所人文科學(xué)、社會(huì)科學(xué)、自然科學(xué)、技術(shù)科學(xué)以及管理科學(xué)在內(nèi)的多科性研究型國(guó)家重點(diǎn)綜合大學(xué)。

　　nitially known as“Fudan Public SchoolFudan University was founded in the year 190S。“Fudan”，literally meaning“‘(heavenly light shines)day after day"，indicates inexhaustible self-reliance and industriousness. After a century of construction，especially with the joint efforts of the Ministry of Education and Shanghai Government，F(xiàn)udan University has gradually developed into a multi-discipline，research-oriented，state key and comprehensive university of humanity science，social science，natural science，technical science and management science.

　　復(fù)旦大學(xué)位于太平洋西海岸的中國(guó)最富吸引力的大都市上海市。學(xué)校目前占地面積252萬(wàn)平方米，校舍建筑面積111萬(wàn)平方米。學(xué)校現(xiàn)有各類實(shí)驗(yàn)室134個(gè)，其中5個(gè)國(guó)家重點(diǎn)實(shí)驗(yàn)室，20個(gè)省部級(jí)重點(diǎn)實(shí)驗(yàn)室。

　　Located on the west coast of the Pacific Fudan University lies in Shanghai，the most dynamic metropolis in China. It now occupies an area of 2.52 million square meters with a floor space up to 1 .1million square meters. Fudan University has 134 laboratories of all kinds，including 5 state key laboratories and 20 provincial or ministerial key laboratories.

　　復(fù)旦大學(xué)圖書館始建于1922年，前身為戊午閱覽室(1918 )。現(xiàn)在有文理醫(yī)3個(gè)圖書館組成，建筑面積29000平方米，現(xiàn)有藏書445萬(wàn)冊(cè)，居全國(guó)高校前列。

　　Fudan University Library was formally established in 1922，previously known as the Reading Room of Wu Vllu(the year 1918).Today it comprises the Liberal Arts Library，the Science Library and the nlledical Library，with its total floor space being 29000 square meters. There is a total collection of 4.4 million volumes，which ranks the first of all national universities.

　　學(xué)校現(xiàn)有17個(gè)學(xué)院(含66個(gè)系)和4個(gè)系68個(gè)學(xué)士學(xué)位專業(yè)，碩士學(xué)位授權(quán)點(diǎn)209個(gè)(其中自設(shè)38個(gè))，一級(jí)學(xué)科博士學(xué)位授權(quán)點(diǎn)22個(gè)，二級(jí)學(xué)科博士學(xué)位授權(quán)點(diǎn)135個(gè)(其中自設(shè)24個(gè))，并設(shè)有25個(gè)博士后科研流動(dòng)站。

　　Fudan consists of seventeen schools(which comprise sixty-six departments)and four independent departments. The University confers bachelor's degrees in sixty-eight academic disciplines，and master's degrees in two hundred and nine disciplines(with thirty-eight of them established by the University itself)，and doctonal degrees in twenty-two academic disciplines of Level I and one hundred and thirty-five academic disciplines of Level II(with fiwenty-four of them established by the University ifiself).There are also twenty-five research stations that offer postdoctoral fellowships.

　　Fudan now has an enrollment of 44300 students of all kinds，including 3 50U doctoral candidates，7 500 master's candidates15700 undergraduates，2200 foreign students 8400 students of adult education and nearly 7000 students of online education.

　　學(xué)校擁有一支高水平的師資隊(duì)伍，現(xiàn)有專任教師一與科研人員2300余人，其中教授、副教授1350余人，中國(guó)科學(xué)院、中國(guó)工程院院士30人，博士生導(dǎo)師746人，教育部“長(zhǎng)江學(xué)者獎(jiǎng)勵(lì)計(jì)劃”特聘教授40人、講座教授14人，"973 "首席科學(xué)家6人，“國(guó)家級(jí)有突出貢獻(xiàn)中青年專家”31人‘:近幾年來(lái)，學(xué)校積極引進(jìn)人才，實(shí)施教育一部“長(zhǎng)江學(xué)者獎(jiǎng)勵(lì)計(jì)劃”，涌現(xiàn)出一批優(yōu)秀的中青年教師，優(yōu)化了師資隊(duì)伍結(jié)構(gòu)。學(xué)校還擁有中山、華山等9個(gè)附屬醫(yī)院，集醫(yī)療服務(wù)、臨床教學(xué)與科研工作于一體。

　　Fudan boasts a qualified faculty of over 2 300 full-time teachers and researchers，including 1 350 full professors and associate professors，30 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering，746 doctoral advisors，40 chair professors and 14 lecture professors of the “Cheungkong Scholars Program”，6 chief scientists of“Project 973”and 31“Young and Middle-Aged Experts Nationally Acknowledged for Their Outstanding Achievements”.In the recent years，the University has been proactive in recruiting youthful strengths and optimizing the echelon of its faculty. Fudan has nine teaching hospitals，such as Zhong-shan(Dr. Sun Yat-san)Hospital and Hua-shan Hospital，which offer quality medical service to the general public，conduct clinical education to student doctors and perform advanced scientific researches.

　　At the threshold of a new century and with the special funding from both the state Ministry of Education and Shanghai Government，F(xiàn)udan University has set its goal of building a world-renowned，research-oriented comprehensive university，which is located in Shanghai while serving the whole country.

　　1905年復(fù)旦大學(xué)創(chuàng)建，原名復(fù)旦公學(xué)。

　　1917年復(fù)旦公學(xué)改名為私立復(fù)旦大學(xué)。

　　1917 Fudan Public School was renamed Public Fudan University.

　　1937年抗日戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)爆發(fā)后，學(xué)校內(nèi)遷重慶北暗

　　1937 After the breakout of the Anti-Japanese War，the university moved to hinterland Chongqing.

　　1946年學(xué)校遷回上海江灣原址。

　　1946 The University moved back to Shanghai.

　　1952年全國(guó)高校院系調(diào)整，復(fù)旦大學(xué)的院系進(jìn)行了大幅度的調(diào)整

　　1952 A nationwide restructuring of institutes of higher education was initiated，and the university undertook a great adjustment of its schools and departments.

　　2000年上海醫(yī)科大學(xué)與復(fù)旦大學(xué)合并，成立新的復(fù)旦大學(xué)。

　　2000 Shanghai Medical Universifiy and Fudan University merged to form a new Fudan University.
