Seismic activity on the Chinese mainland will remain at an averagelevel despite a recent spate of disastrous earthquakes worldwide, theChina Earthquake Administration said。

　　中國地震局表示，盡管近期世界各地頻頻發(fā)生強(qiáng)震，但我國大陸地震活動處于平均地震活動水平。

　　So far this year, the mainland has been hit with four earthquakesof at least magnitude 5, which is strong enough to cause considerabledamage。

　　2010年以來，我國大陸共發(fā)生4次5級以上的地震，如此強(qiáng)烈的地震已造成相當(dāng)大的損失。

　　In addition, a magnitude-6.4 earthquake struck the border area between China and Russia on Feb 18.

　　此外，2月18日中、俄邊界發(fā)生6.4級地震。

　　These activities show a normal release of energy, and nodestructive earthquake will occur on the mainland for a while, theBeijing Times quoted an unidentified expert of the administration assaying on Tuesday。

　　周二，《京華時報(bào)》援引地震局某專家的話說，這些地殼活動是一種正常的能量釋放，大陸暫時不會發(fā)生破壞性地震。

　　China, one of the world's most earthquake-prone countries,experiences an average 145 magnitude-4 earthquakes on the mainlandannually。

　　作為世界上地震多發(fā)國家之一，中國大陸地區(qū)每年平均發(fā)生145次4級地震。

　　The administration also said there were about 20 magnitude-5 earthquakes and three or four magnitude-6 earthquakes a year。

　　地震局還補(bǔ)充到，每年中國大陸還會發(fā)生20次5級地震以及3~4次6級地震。

　　Earthquakes of magnitude 7, which are capable of causing widespread heavy damage, occur about twice every three years, accordingto data provided by the administration。

　　根據(jù)地震局所提供的數(shù)據(jù)顯示，中國大陸平均每三年會發(fā)生兩次7級地震，這一震級的地震足以造成大面積、嚴(yán)重的損壞。

　　Experts also rejected the idea that an upswing of mega-earthquakesin the rest of the world would spill over into the mainland。

　　對于“世界其他地區(qū)強(qiáng)震發(fā)生次數(shù)增加，將會波及到大陸”這一說法，有關(guān)專家予以否認(rèn)。

　　Judging from either frequency or magnitude, the world has entereda period of active earthquakes, according to seismic data collectedsince 1900, Sun Shikuang, chief forecaster with China Earthquake Networks Center, told the Beijing-based China Youth Daily on Tuesday。

　　In January, a magnitude-7.3 earthquake hit Haiti, killing morethan 200,000 people. A magnitude-8.8 earthquake on Feb 27 in Chile leftroughly 800 dead. Earlier this month, two earthquakes with magnitudes above six rocked Turkey and the island of Taiwan。

　　But even if the upward trend continues, a majority of the comingearthquakes will take place on the Pacific Rim, the area around theedge of the Pacific Ocean, according to a statement published by theearthquake administration。

　　國家地震局發(fā)表聲明稱，即使強(qiáng)震較多的現(xiàn)象可能還會持續(xù)，但大多數(shù)地震將發(fā)生在環(huán)太平洋地震帶。

　　China's mainland is not located on the rim。

　　However, the recent spate of destructive earthquakes worldwide haspushed Chinese experts to watch the Earth's movements more closely。
