考生應(yīng)能掌握5500左右的詞匯以及相關(guān)詞組。除掌握詞匯的基本含義外，考生還應(yīng)掌握詞匯之間的詞義關(guān)系，掌握詞匯之間的搭配關(guān)系，掌握詞匯生成的基本知識(shí)。

1. highlight

n. (圖畫或照片的)強(qiáng)光部份;最重要的事情;最精彩的部分;

vt. 強(qiáng)調(diào)，突出;把…照亮;標(biāo)示記號(hào);為…中最突出的事物;

[例句]Last year Collins wrote a moving ballad which highlighted the plight of the homeless.

去年，柯林斯寫了一首動(dòng)人的抒情歌曲，突出描繪了無(wú)家可歸者的苦境。

2. hysterical

adj. 癔病性;歇斯底里般的;癔病的;情緒異常激動(dòng)的;

[例句]Police and bodyguards had to protect him as the almost hysterical crowds struggled to approach him.

當(dāng)情緒幾近失控的人群拼命想接近他時(shí)，警察和保鏢不得不保護(hù)他。

3. hint

n. 暗示;線索，跡象;提示，注意事項(xiàng);微量;

v. 暗示，提示;

[例句]The Minister gave a strong hint that the government were thinking of introducing tax concessions for mothers.

部長(zhǎng)明顯地暗示政府正在考慮對(duì)母親們實(shí)行稅收減免。

4. hedge

n. 樹(shù)籬;保護(hù)手段;防止損失(尤指金錢)的手段;

vt. 用樹(shù)籬圍起;受…的束縛;回避，避免;

[例句]You can hedge against redundancy or illness with insurance.

可以購(gòu)買保險(xiǎn)以防失業(yè)或患病。

5. hold

vt. 容納;拿住，握住;保留，保存;扣留，拘押;

vi. 拿住，握住;同意，贊成;保持不變;有效;

n. 握住;保留;控制;

[例句]Hold the knife at an angle.

斜握住刀。

6. homogeneous

adj. 均勻的;同性質(zhì)的，同類的;由相同(或同類型)事物(或人)組成的;[數(shù)]齊性的，齊次的;

[例句]The unemployed are not a homogeneous group.

失業(yè)者不能一概而論。

7. haste

n. 匆忙，急忙;急速，緊迫;輕率;

v. 趕緊，匆忙;<古>使快，催促;

[例句]In their haste to escape the rising water, they dropped some expensive equipment.

他們?cè)诤铀蠞q倉(cāng)促逃離時(shí)，丟掉了一些值錢的裝備。

8. hostile

adj. 懷有敵意的;敵人的，敵對(duì)的;不利的;

n. 敵方;敵對(duì)者，敵對(duì)物;

[例句]Many people felt he would be hostile to the idea of foreign intervention.

很多人覺(jué)得他會(huì)反對(duì)外國(guó)干預(yù)的主意。

9. hamper

10. identical

adj. 同一的;完全同樣的，相同的;恒等的;同卵的;

n. 完全相同的事物;同卵雙胞;

[例句]Nearly all the houses were identical.

幾乎所有的房子都一模一樣。

11. idle

adj. 空閑的;無(wú)意義的;懶惰的;無(wú)根據(jù)的;

vi. 空轉(zhuǎn);虛度;掛空擋;未熄火;

vt. 虛度;使空轉(zhuǎn);

[例句]Employees have been idle almost a month because of shortages.

由于原料短缺，員工們已將近一個(gè)月無(wú)事可做。

12. ignite

14. illuminate

15. illustrate

[例句]The example of the United States illustrates this point.
