Even as selfish-hearted men.

She was cruel in her fear；

Through the bars one weary day，

I looked out to see her there，

Still in strife, she whispered peace；

If I listened, she would cease.

False she was, and unrelenting；

艾米莉·勃朗特（Emily Bronte），英國(guó)著名女作家，《呼嘯山莊》是她的代表作。她曾與姐妹合出過(guò)一本詩(shī)集，直到20世紀(jì)她才被公認(rèn)為英國(guó)三大女詩(shī)人之一。艾米莉生性內(nèi)向而孤傲，深居簡(jiǎn)出，喜歡一個(gè)人在荒原上散步。長(zhǎng)相平平的她一輩子都沒(méi)有談過(guò)戀愛(ài)。與她的姊妹一樣，艾米莉的身體因?yàn)楫?dāng)?shù)氐臍夂蚨@得衰弱。在1848年9月她的兄弟的喪禮期間，艾米莉感染了風(fēng)寒，并且拒絕服用藥物。1848年12月19日，艾米莉因結(jié)核病去世。
