英文原文
In the United States, on the third Sunday of June, we celebrate Father's Day.
在美國(guó),六月的第三個(gè)周日是父親節(jié)。
So today, we celebrate fathers with some expressions that use the word "father" and "dad".
所以今天,我們用一些包含“父親”和“爸爸”這兩個(gè)詞的短語(yǔ)來(lái)慶祝父親節(jié)。
Let's begin with a great father idiom: "Success has many fathers, but failure is an orphan."
讓我們從一個(gè)很棒的與父親有關(guān)的習(xí)語(yǔ)開(kāi)始:“成功有很多父親,但失敗是個(gè)孤兒?!?/span>
An orphan is a child whose parents have died.
孤兒是指父母雙亡的孩子。
Without parents, orphans can often feel alone in the world.
沒(méi)有父母,孤兒常常會(huì)感到孤獨(dú)無(wú)依。
There is no adult to claim them, so to speak.
可以說(shuō),沒(méi)有成年人會(huì)認(rèn)領(lǐng)他們。
We can say the same about failures. Often, people do not want to claim them as their own.
對(duì)于失敗,我們也可以這么說(shuō)。通常,人們不想承認(rèn)失敗是自己的。
People may not want to take ownership, for example, of a project at work that is a complete bust, you know, a failure.
例如,人們可能不想承擔(dān)工作中完全失敗的項(xiàng)目,你知道的,就是失敗。
On the other hand, it is not uncommon for people to fight over ownership of a big success.
另一方面,人們?yōu)榱藸?zhēng)奪巨大成功的所有權(quán)而爭(zhēng)斗并不罕見(jiàn)。
They always want to be on the right side of history.
他們總是想站在歷史正確的一邊。
"It was my idea!" "No, it wasn't. I thought of it ages ago." "Well, I did most of the work." You get the idea.
“這是我的主意!”“不,不是。我很久以前就想到了?!薄昂冒?,我做了大部分工作?!蹦忝靼孜业囊馑剂?。
So, this idiom means that people like belonging to a successful cause, but they distance themselves from a failed one.
所以,這個(gè)習(xí)語(yǔ)的意思是人們喜歡歸屬于成功的事業(yè),但他們會(huì)與失敗的事業(yè)保持距離。
Here's how you can use it: Let's say a new business opens in your community. Everyone is excited about it. Some even invest money. It is the talk of the town. Then it fails. People who once supported it don't seem to remember supporting it. When those people say to you, "Oh, I knew it would fail. It was doomed from the very beginning," you can say, "Success has many fathers, but failure is an orphan."
