在國際貿(mào)易中,由國家設(shè)置的檢驗(yàn)機(jī)構(gòu)或經(jīng)政府注冊(cè)的、獨(dú)立的、第三者身份的鑒定機(jī)構(gòu)對(duì)進(jìn)出口商品的質(zhì)量、規(guī)格、衛(wèi)生、安全、檢疫、包裝、數(shù)量、重量、殘損以及裝運(yùn)條件、裝運(yùn)技術(shù)等進(jìn)行檢驗(yàn)、鑒定和監(jiān)督管理工作。商檢機(jī)構(gòu)在完成進(jìn)出口商品檢驗(yàn)鑒定工作后簽發(fā)的證明書。商檢證明是對(duì)外貿(mào)易有關(guān)各方履行合同義務(wù)和處理索賠爭(zhēng)議具有法律地位的證明文件,是進(jìn)出口商品交接結(jié)算、通關(guān)計(jì)稅、計(jì)算費(fèi)用、進(jìn)行索賠等的有效憑證。索賠時(shí)出示商檢證書將為索賠添上重重的砝碼。

A:Our customers reported that your products are very poor in quality.

We can't use them at all.

場(chǎng)景應(yīng)用

產(chǎn)品的質(zhì)量出現(xiàn)了嚴(yán)重的問題,鄭小姐想要退款。賣方向鄭小姐介紹了新的產(chǎn)品,并表示可以換貨。

A:Well, Miss Zheng. Just to make things clear, I'd like to ask you some questions. Do all the products have quality problems?

B:Of course. We invited many clients that day. I was hoping that I could be under the spotlight that night. But I turned out to be a mockery. And I lost face before so many people.

A:Miss Zheng, on behalf of my company, I make an apology to you with all my heart. Just as our company's promises, our product assures quality. There must be some strange things in it.

B:It happened to me! I want a refund.

A:If you don't mind, I have a proposal to you. Why not come to our company? We have a new product which is the latest items. I'm sure you'll like it. And please trust me, the quality will be guaranteed.

B:That sounds acceptable.

A:鄭小姐,我想問您幾個(gè)問題以澄清事實(shí)。是所有的商品都有質(zhì)量問題嗎?

B:是的,當(dāng)天我們公司邀請(qǐng)了很多客戶。我還希望我們能能夠在那晚成為焦點(diǎn),沒想到居然變成了小丑!這簡(jiǎn)直太丟臉了。

B:既然這個(gè)事情發(fā)生在了我身上,我就要求退款。

A:如果您不介意的話,我想向你提個(gè)建議。你為什么不來我們公司呢?我們有最新款的產(chǎn)品,我相信你會(huì)喜歡的。另外,請(qǐng)相信我,這批新貨的質(zhì)量一定得以保證。

B:聽上去還算可以接受。

lose face丟臉,受侮辱

該短語源于漢語的“丟臉”,據(jù)說是一些近代在中國經(jīng)商的英國人介紹到英語在中的,此后他們又創(chuàng)造了一次寫類似的成語:save the face(保全面子),a loss of face(丟面子),face-saving(失面子的)。例如:The last thing I want to see is to lose face before my friends.(我最不想見到自己在朋友面前丟臉。)

由于貨物的質(zhì)量比樣貨差,布萊爾先生準(zhǔn)備拒收貨物。但是張先生提出降價(jià)10%,布萊爾先生最終同意了對(duì)方的解決方案。

A:Mr. Zhang, I'm regret to tell you that we have to decline the shipment.

A:What happened, Mr. Bair?

B:The shipment did not come up to the samples.

A:That's impossible. They were usually inspected to the standard.

B:The color of these products is much darker than that of the samples and the quality is much weaker. So we have to decline the shipment.

A:How can you do that! We've already delivered it to the destination port, and we'll sustain a huge loss if you decline it.

B:But we'll also suffer great losses if we accept these goods different from the samples.

A:Well, the die is cast; we'll bring down our price by 10%, since we stand by our products. Is that okay?

B:All right. We agree to accept your proposal.

A:張先生,我方很遺憾地告訴你們,我們不得不拒收你方的貨物。

B:布萊爾先生,出了什么事?

A:這些貨的質(zhì)量沒有達(dá)到樣貨的標(biāo)準(zhǔn)。

B:這不可能,貨物通常是經(jīng)過了檢驗(yàn)并符合標(biāo)準(zhǔn)的。

A:這些貨的顏色比樣貨深,并且品質(zhì)也比樣貨差,因此我們拒收此貨。

B:那怎么行!貨物已運(yùn)抵目的港,如果你方拒收,我方將損失重大。

A:但如果我們接收了這批與樣貨不符的貨,我們的損失也同樣慘重。

B:事已至此,我們?cè)敢庳?fù)責(zé),我們就降價(jià)10%。這總可以了吧?

A:好吧,我方接收你方的建議。

the die is cast事已定局;事已至此,無可反悔

成語中的die是指骰子。在擲骰子賭博時(shí),通常擲出去(cast)的最后點(diǎn)數(shù)都是一定的。并不會(huì)再有所變動(dòng),因此不論主觀的意志為何,一樣是直接按點(diǎn)數(shù)論輸贏,沒有爭(zhēng)論的余地。

據(jù)說凱撒大帝(uius Caesar)在率軍渡過魯比孔河(Rubican)要與龐貝決一死戰(zhàn)時(shí),便用了the die is cast表示“心意已決,沒有更改的余地”。the die is cast也可以寫做the die is thrown,意思不變。
