The hour of vengeance strikes! Hark to the gale,

復(fù)仇的時刻到了！聽那狂風(fēng)，

As it bursts hollow through the rolling clouds,

That from the North in sullen grandeur sail

Like floating Alps. Advancing darkness broods

Now sinking into brambles, echo shrill,

Shoot on their leafless boughs the sleet-drops chill,

That on the hurrying crowds in freezing showers distil.

They reach the wilderness! The majesty of solitude is spread before their gaze, —

他們所到之處是荒野！展現(xiàn)在眼前的，是孤獨(dú)的莊嚴(yán)——

Stern nakedness—dark earth and wrathful sky;

堅(jiān)定地裸露著——黑暗的大地和憤怒的天空；

If ruins were there, they long had ceased to blaze;

即使有廢墟，也早已停止燃燒；

If blood was shed, the ground no more betrays, E'en by a skeleton, the crime of man:

流血了，大地就不會再背叛，那一具具骷髏，是人類罪惡的化身：

Behind them rolls the deep and drenching haze,

他們身后是滾滾的濃霧，

Wrapping their rear in night; before their van

后方部隊(duì)隱藏在黑夜之中；戰(zhàn)車前

The struggling daylight shows the unmeasured desert wan.

是刺眼的日光照亮了無邊的沙漠

Still on they sweep, as if their hurrying march

Whose chariot is the whirlwind. Heaven's clear arch

At once is covered with a livid veil:

In mixed and fighting heaps the deep clouds reel:

在混亂和拼殺的人群中，烏云翻滾：

Upon the dense horizon hangs the sun,

In sanguine light, an orb of burning steel:

明亮的陽光之下，是一個燃燒著的鋼球：

The snows wheel down through twilight, thick and dun.

積雪在暮色里滾滾而下，深厚而黯淡。

Now tremble, men of blood—the judgment has begun!

顫抖吧，血人——審判已經(jīng)開始！

The trumpet of the northern winds has blown,

北風(fēng)的號角已經(jīng)吹響，

And it is answered by the dying roar of armies on that boundless field o'erthrown.

Now in the awful gusts the desert hoar Is tempested—a sea without a shore,

Lifting its feathery waves! The legions fly; Volley on volley down the hailstones pour:

Blind, famished, frozen, mad, the wanderers die; And, dying, hear the storm but wilder thunder by.

Such is the hand of Heaven! A human blow had crushed them in the fight, or flung the chain

這便是上帝之手！人類在戰(zhàn)爭中將它擊碎，或者把鐵鏈

Round them where Moscow's stately towers were low;

投到莫斯科莊嚴(yán)的塔樓低處；

And all be stilled. But thou! thy battle-plain Was a whole empire: that devoted train

萬物都凝固了。唯獨(dú)你！你的戰(zhàn)場是一整個帝國：那列忠誠的列車

Must war from day to day with storm and gloom

必須日復(fù)一日和風(fēng)暴，和黑暗作戰(zhàn)

(Man following, like the wolves that rend the slain);

（后面的戰(zhàn)士，如同撕裂殘殺的豺狼）；

Must lie from night to night as in a tomb;

Must fly, toil, bleed for home—yet never see that home!
