In vain, alas!—in vain, ye gallant few!
一切徒勞無返，唉！——一切都徒然，你們都勇敢一些吧！
From rank to rank your volleyed thunder flew:—
你那像棒球一樣凌空的雷聲正成階梯狀響徹整片天空，
Oh, bloodiest picture in the book of Time!

Sarmatia fell, unwept, without a crime!
薩爾馬提亞，沒有任何犯罪現(xiàn)象地衰落！
Found not a generous friend, a pitying foe,
發(fā)現(xiàn)沒有任何一個慷慨的朋友，任何一個可憐的敵人，
Strength in her arms, nor mercy in her woe!
在她有力的襁褓中，在她的悲哀里沒有任何憐憫！
Dropped from her nerveless grasp the shattered spear,
那破碎的矛從她無力的手中抖落下來了，
Closed her bright eye, and curbed her high career:
閉上她那明亮的眼睛，拋棄了她高尚的職業(yè)：
Hope, for a season, bade the world farewell.
這個季節(jié)的希望正在向世界告別。
And Freedom shrieked—as Kosciusko fell!

The sun went down, nor ceased the carnage there,—

Tumultuous Murder shook the midnight air;

On Prague's proud arch the fires of Ruin glow,

Earth shook! red meteors flashed along the sky!

Departed spirits of the mighty dead!

Ye that at Marathon and Leuctra bled!
你們在馬拉松和留克特拉流的血！
Friends of the world! restore your swords to man,
世界之友！守住你那刺向人類的邪惡之劍，
Fight in his sacred cause, and lead the van!
在他神圣的事業(yè)中戰(zhàn)斗，并領(lǐng)導(dǎo)這輛貨車！
Yet for Sarmatia's tears of blood atone,
然而，卻要向薩爾馬提亞的血和淚贖罪，
And make her arm puissant as your own!
使她的手臂和你的一樣強壯！
Oh! once again to Freedom's cause return
哦!再次回到對自由的事業(yè)回報中去，
The patriot Tell—the Bruce of Bannockburn!
