"The assailants have won the barriers, have they not?" said Ivanhoe.
“他們已經(jīng)成功戰(zhàn)勝了那個(gè)障礙，不是嗎？”艾文荷說道。
"They have!—they have!"exclaimed Rebecca; "and they press the besieged hard upon the outer wall.
“他們戰(zhàn)勝了！——他們戰(zhàn)勝了！”麗貝卡驚喊道，他們把這股圍攻勢力逼迫到墻外了。
Some plant ladders, some swarm like bees, and endeavour to ascend on the shoulders of each other.
他們一些植物的梯子向上爬，有些像蜜蜂一樣向上涌去，在彼此的肩上努力地向上爬。
Down go stones, beams, and trunks of trees upon their heads; and as fast as they bear the wounded to the rear,
在他們的頭上有石頭，梁，和樹干；他們盡可能快得將傷者背到城墻的后方，
fresh men supply their places in the assault.
新兵開始替代他們在戰(zhàn)場上戰(zhàn)斗。
Great God! hast thou given men thine own image that it should be thus cruelly defaced by the hands of their brethren?"
偉大的神?。∧阋屵@些人被他們同屬于人類的兄弟姐妹們所殘殺嗎？“
"Think not of that," said Ivanhoe; "this is no time for such thoughts. Who yield?—who push their way?"
”別有這樣的想法，艾文荷說；“現(xiàn)在沒有時(shí)間想這些沒用的。誰會(huì)投降？——誰又將會(huì)贏？”
"The ladders are thrown down," replied Rebecca, shuddering;
“梯子被扔下來，”麗貝卡顫栗地答道，
"the soldiers lie grovelling under them like crushed reptiles—the besieged have the better."
士兵們像破碎的爬行動(dòng)物一樣躺在地上——這次的圍攻應(yīng)該有更好的結(jié)果?！?/p>
"Ah!" exclaimed the knight; "do the false yeomen give way?"
“啊！”騎士驚呼道；“這些虛假的自耕農(nóng)會(huì)讓步嗎？”
"No!" exclaimed Rebecca; "they bear themselves right yeomanly. The Black Knight approaches the postern with his huge axe;
“不！”麗貝卡喊道；”這些自耕農(nóng)他們有自己的信仰。黑騎士用他那巨大的斧頭靠近后門；
the thundering blows which he deals,—you may hear them above all the din and shouts of the battle.
他遭到了雷鳴般的打擊，——你可能在這次戰(zhàn)役的喧囂聲中與喊叫聲中聽到這雷鳴般打擊的聲音。
Stones and beams are hailed down on the bold champion—he regards them no more than if they were thistle-down or feathers!"
這勇敢的勝利者將石頭和梁柱都推倒了——如果他們曾經(jīng)像薊羽絨或羽毛一樣，他將認(rèn)為他們沒有比這更大膽的勝利者了！”
"Ha!" said Ivanhoe, raising himself joyfully on his couch, "methought there was but one man in England that might do such a deed!"

"The postern gateshakes," continued Rebecca; "it crashes—it is splintered by his blows—they rush in—the outwork is won!
“后門的蓋茨黑德，”麗貝卡接著說道；“它倒了——它被打成了碎片——他們沖進(jìn)來了——城外的圍攻已經(jīng)取得了勝利！
O God!—they hurl the defenders from the battlements—they throw them into the moat.
神啊！他們把守衛(wèi)者從城垛扔到了城外——他們把他們?nèi)拥搅俗o(hù)城河里。
O men, if ye be indeed men, spare them that can resist no longer!"
