第四十五課 金鷹的巢

Almost all the people in the parish were leading in their meadow-hay on the same day of midsummer, so drying was the sunshine and the wind;

幾乎在這個(gè)街區(qū)的所有人都在仲夏的同一天曬他們的干草，陽(yáng)光和風(fēng)是如此的干燥；

and huge heaped-up wains, that almost hid from view the horses that drew them along the sward beginning to get green with second growth,

were moving in all directions toward the snug farm-yards.

Jocund was the balmy air with laughter, whistle, and song.

But the trees threw the shadow of "one o'clock" on the green dial-face of the earth;

但是當(dāng)樹(shù)木的影子在綠色鐘面樣的地面上指向“一點(diǎn)鐘”時(shí)，

the horses were unyoked, and took instantly to grazing;

馬被分開(kāi)了，并且立即吃起青草來(lái)；

groups of men, women, and children collected under grove, and bush, and hedge-row;

男人、女人、孩童在樹(shù)下、灌木下、樹(shù)籬旁聚集；

and the great Being, who gave them that day their daily bread, looked down from his eternal home on many a thankful heart.

偉大的上帝，是給予他們每天溫飽的人，從他那永恒的家園向下看著那里許多懷有感恩之心的人。

The great golden eagle, the pride and the pest of the parish, stooped down, and flew away with something in its talons.

大金雕，是這個(gè)街區(qū)的驕傲，也是這里的害鳥(niǎo)，它俯沖下來(lái)，飛走時(shí)爪子里抓著某些東西。

One single, sudden, female shriek arose; and then shouts and outcries,

突然，一只單飛的雌鷹尖叫起來(lái)；

as if a church spire had tumbled down on a congregation at service.

它喊叫、大聲疾呼，好像教堂尖頂砸到了教會(huì)中禱告的會(huì)眾。
