第十四課 “皇家喬治號(hào)”戰(zhàn)艦的損失

Toll for the brave,

喪鐘為勇士而鳴，

The brave that are no more!

勇士們都已不在人間！

All sunk beneath the wave,

所有人都葬身于滾滾波濤之下，

Fast by their native shore.

臨近著他們故土的岸邊。

Eight hundred of the brave,

八百名勇士啊，

Whose courage well was tried,

他們的勇氣久經(jīng)考驗(yàn)，

Had made the vessel heel,

他們的勇氣之猛令戰(zhàn)艦也為之側(cè)傾，

And laid her on her side.

也讓他們沉睡在戰(zhàn)艦身邊。

A land-breeze shook the shrouds,

一股海風(fēng)搖動(dòng)著艦上的桅桿纜繩，

And she was overset;

她已然傾覆；

Down went the "Royal George"

連同她的全體船員，

With all her crew complete.

“皇家喬治號(hào)”戰(zhàn)艦已經(jīng)沉沒(méi)。

Toll for the brave!

喪鐘為勇士而鳴！

Brave Kempenfelt is gone;

英勇的海軍將領(lǐng)肯彭費(fèi)爾特已然離去；

His last sea-fight is fought,

他的昂揚(yáng)斗志讓他戰(zhàn)斗到最后一刻，

His work of glory done.

他榮耀的工作已經(jīng)完成。

It was not in the battle;

戰(zhàn)艦沒(méi)在戰(zhàn)斗中沉沒(méi)；

No tempest gave the shock;

不是狂風(fēng)驟雨帶給她致命一擊；

She sprang no fatal leak,

不是致命的滲漏讓她傾覆，

She ran upon no rock.

也不是撞上了礁巖。

His sword was in its sheath,

當(dāng)海軍將領(lǐng)肯彭費(fèi)爾特沒(méi)入水底時(shí)，

His fingers held the pen,

他的劍仍插在鞘中，

When Kempenfelt went down

他的手仍緊握著鋼筆，

With twice four hundred men.

Weigh the vessel up,

我們的戰(zhàn)艦威力無(wú)比，

Once dreaded by our foes!

敵人一旦遭遇我們，將懼怕無(wú)比！

And mingle with our cup

英格蘭應(yīng)為之灑下熱淚，

The tear that England owes.

還將呈上我們的榮譽(yù)之杯。

Her timbers yet are sound,

“皇家喬治號(hào)”戰(zhàn)艦的木料依然完好，

And she may float again,

她仍然可以再次浮起，

Full charged with England's thunder,

伴著英格蘭轟隆的雷鳴全速前進(jìn)，

And plough the distant main.

開(kāi)向遠(yuǎn)方的主戰(zhàn)場(chǎng)。

But Kempenfelt is gone,

可是海軍將領(lǐng)肯彭費(fèi)爾特已經(jīng)離去，

His victories are o'er;

他的輝煌戰(zhàn)績(jī)亦戛然而止。

And he and his eight hundred

他和他的八百將士

Shall plough the wave no more.

再不能劈波斬浪為國(guó)效力。
