"There, now!" she cried, throwing back her head and looking defiantly at Lestrade. "You hear! He gives me hopes."

她把頭往后一仰，以輕蔑的眼光看著雷斯垂德大聲地說："好啦！你注意聽著！他給了我希望。"

Lestrade shrugged his shoulders. "I am afraid that my colleague has been a little quick in forming his conclusions," he said.

雷斯垂德聳了聳肩。他說："我看我的同事結(jié)論下得太輕率了吧。"

"But he is right. Oh! I know that he is right. James never did it.

And about his quarrel with his father,

Mr. McCarthy was very anxious that there should be a marriage between us.

麥卡錫先生氣切希望我們結(jié)婚。

James and I have always loved each other as brother and sister;
