雙語(yǔ)脫口秀《老外來(lái)了》:微信“拍一拍”，居然藏著個(gè)英文冷知識(shí)!

想必大家都已經(jīng)體驗(yàn)了微信的新功能（new feature）——“拍一拍”。今天，翩翩就和梅莉用英文聊一聊“拍一拍”。

1.微信新功能：“拍一拍”

1.You double tap someone’s profile picture. 雙擊對(duì)方的頭像。

2.It will shake the other person’s profile picture . 對(duì)方的頭像會(huì)震動(dòng)。

3.Then a message will show up in the conversation as “You nudged xxx” . 對(duì)話框會(huì)出現(xiàn)“你拍了拍XXX”信息。

需要將微信升級(jí)到最新版本（the latest version）。

除了拍別人，你還可以“自拍”（nudge yourself）。

We can simply nudge them on WeChat. （以后，微信聊天直接“拍一拍”，不必再發(fā)“在嗎”）

2.微信團(tuán)隊(duì)怎么翻譯“拍一拍”？

“nudge”： to push somebody gently輕輕地推某人，像小時(shí)候上課時(shí)，同桌會(huì)碰你一下，提醒“老師叫你呢！”

“拍一拍”只是來(lái)提醒某人，而非真正的pat 或 beat。因此，微信團(tuán)隊(duì)使用“nudge”這個(gè)詞非常傳神，并且合適（fitting）。

3.微信翻譯中的“英文小秘密”

翩翩的手機(jī)屏幕中，會(huì)出現(xiàn)以下情況：

（1） 如果翩翩拍了一下梅莉，會(huì)出現(xiàn)“you nudged 梅莉”的文字。

（2）如果翩翩拍了一下自己，會(huì)出現(xiàn)“you nudged yourself”的文字。

（3） 如果梅莉拍了一下梅莉，那么屏幕上會(huì)顯示“梅莉 nudged themselves”的文字。

梅莉是一個(gè)人，為什么用 themselves（他們自己）？

原因很簡(jiǎn)單：

因?yàn)槲⑿挪恢烂防騣s a man or a woman，所以使用“they”來(lái)指代。

*英文語(yǔ)法冷知識(shí)：

當(dāng)你不知道一個(gè)人的性別時(shí)，可以用they、them、themselves 來(lái)指代。

這叫做：

單數(shù)they！

就像是中文網(wǎng)上，用“TA”來(lái)直接代替“她”或“他”。

At the end of 2015, this "singular they" was also selected as one of the ten "Word of the Year" of Oxford Dictionaries.

2015年年底，“單數(shù)they”還曾入選為牛津詞典（Oxford Dictionaries）的十大“年度詞匯”（Word of the Year）之一。

Singular they 很常用?。?/p>

（1）If anyone doesn’t like it, they can leave.（要是有人不喜歡，TA可以離開。）

（2） When a friend upsets you, do you tell them?（朋友讓你不開心的時(shí)候，你會(huì)告訴TA嗎？）

（3）Someone has left their coat behind.（有人把TA的外套落下了。）

由此可見，This rule is actually really helpful，可以幫助我們cut down on the words。

翻譯下面這個(gè)句子：

一個(gè)人不理發(fā)的時(shí)候，TA的頭發(fā)就會(huì)變長(zhǎng)。

When somebody does not get a haircut, his or her hair grows long.

有了singular they，下面這個(gè)句子就可以簡(jiǎn)化為：

→When somebody does not get a haircut, their hair grows long.

所以這就解釋了，微信中，對(duì)方拍了拍自己，會(huì)翻譯為“XXX nudged themselves”。
