這句話是說：大量的財(cái)富可以使他娶那個(gè)聞名的美女為妻。

注解1：be in a position to do something

釋義：to be able to do something, usually because you have the necessary experience, authority or money )(因有能力，有資格，有權(quán)利，有金錢等)能夠去做某事

Eg.I'm not in a position to take care of this business.

這事我管不了。

Eg.I'd like to help you, but I'm afraid I'm not in a position to do so.

我是很愿意幫你忙的，但是我現(xiàn)在沒有能力這么做。

注解2：put sb in a position to do something：使某人能夠做某事

Eg.I'm sure they'd like to help her out financially but their diffcult situation put me in a position not to do so.

我相信他們是愿意在經(jīng)濟(jì)上幫她解決困難的，可以由于他們自己的處境，他們做不到。

Eg.My divorceputs me in a position to wind the hand of Mary who can speak the same language with me now.

現(xiàn)在我離婚了，我可以夠娶和我志趣相投的Mary為妻子了。

注解3：beauty在這句話中是“person that is beautiful”的意思，是指“美人”。

Eg.She was a famous beauty in her youth.

例句-2：Hewent afterher for many years and won her handat last.

釋義1：追捕，追趕

Eg.She pulled away from him to run down the stairs and go after her husband.

釋義2：謀求;力爭(zhēng);追求

Eg.She is going after the first prize.
