英語早間課堂:話說地道美語 Lesson 19(4)

通過第19課前三講的學(xué)習(xí)我們知道了pull an all-nighter和be a night owl都有be active at night的意思，即：打更熬夜之意。What's more, we have more colorful words which are similar to saying "pull an all-nighter" or "be a night owl". 我們還有更多的方式來表述"打更熬夜"的意思。今天我們就來享受這些好詞妙語。這 —— 就是我們今天的Spiritual Breakfast。

1. stay up I stayed up late last night to watch the final game of the World Cup. 我昨晚熬夜看了世界杯決賽。

注解：last night 昨晚 final game決賽 the World Cup 世界杯 watch a game 觀看比賽2. a nightbird / a night person It's a pity that I cannot become a nightbird to have a blast with all of you tonight , singing and dancing.很可惜我今晚不能和大家共度又唱又跳的狂歡之夜。

注解：(1)短語：have a blast 玩瘋;玩得極其痛快 (2)語法：singing and dancing 是現(xiàn)在分詞短語做伴隨狀況狀語，也的語法專家說是方式狀語。

3. sit up It's usual for him to sit up late at night.他經(jīng)常晚上熬夜。

4. burn the oil midnight oil Everybody knows it is not healthy to burn the midnight oil. Sometimes we have no choice to stay up cramming for the tests tomorrow.雖然每個(gè)人都知道熬夜是不健康的。但有時(shí)我們還是不得不熬夜抱佛腳。

注解：(1) 短語：have no choice 別無選擇;不得已 cram for為.....臨時(shí)抱佛腳。 (2) 語法：cramming for the tests tomorrow是現(xiàn)在分詞短語在句中作原因狀語。(3) 短語來源： Burn the midnight oil這個(gè)短語是引用十七世紀(jì)英國詩人Francis Quarles相當(dāng)受歡迎的作品《徽章》(Emblems)。當(dāng)時(shí)人民想在夜晚讀書或工作，只能使用油燈照明，因此這位詩人就在他深夜埋頭工作時(shí)，有感而發(fā)的寫下：“We spend our midday sweat, our midnight oil/ we tire the night in thought, the day in oil.” 表示自己在白天或深夜都得燃燒油燈，汗流工作。 后來當(dāng)某人日以繼夜地工作時(shí)，我們就會說他“連半夜也要燃燒油燈”，慢慢地這種說法也就被用來指“開夜車”“熬夜”的意思。

Experts point out that pulling an all-nighter is sure to do us harm which is skin damage, resistance dropping, memory deterioration and fire excess from yin deficiency. So , keeping a good health is of primary importance for a night owl.

專家指出，與自然規(guī)律相悖的行為，往往對人體的健康存在著潛在的危害。對于“熬夜族”來說，捍衛(wèi)自身的健康可是生活中的頭等大事。因?yàn)榘疽箍梢越o我們帶來四害：一是皮膚受損，二是抵抗力下降，三是記憶力下降，四是陰虛火旺。親愛的朋友，或許為了生計(jì)，您不得不成為“熬夜族”中的一員。Just as the same, I hope that you have a good health.
