1 turn something ( or somebody ) down
turn down(something or somebody)
【Explanation】
to reject or refuse to consider an offer , or a proposal or the person who wants to make it 拒絕考慮(提議，建議，或者是提議者，建議者等)
【Example Sentences】
She turns your invitation because she thinks you intend to come to on her.
她拒絕你的邀請(qǐng)是因?yàn)樗J(rèn)為你想吃她的豆腐。
知識(shí)拓展：come on to somebody 是個(gè)俚語，表示男生親近女生，對(duì)女生有性面的想法。翻譯為：輕薄。中文口語中的“吃豆腐”的表述就是這個(gè)短語。
He's been turned down for ten jobs so far.
他迄今申請(qǐng)了10份工作都遭到了拒絕。
知識(shí)拓展：1 介詞for在這里是表“原因”。2 so far 迄今，目前為止 So far, there are few signs of trouble.直到現(xiàn)在，還幾乎沒有什么麻煩的跡象。The evidence so far is mixed.迄今為止跡象是混雜的。
He asks her to marry him but she turns him down.
他請(qǐng)求她嫁給他，可是她回絕了。
2 say no to (somthing or somebody)
【Explanation】
to refuse an offer, or a suggestion,etc. 拒絕, 反對(duì)，否定(提議或建議等)
【Example Sentences】
If you don't invest in this, you'er saying no to a potential fortune.
如果你在這上面不投資的話，那就說明你根本就不想發(fā)財(cái)。
知識(shí)拓展： invest in something 在......上投資 potential fortune 有可能會(huì)發(fā)財(cái)
She would never say no to anything to her children.
她對(duì)孩子百依百順。
Didn’t she say not to the date last time?
上次相親，她不是沒有拒絕嗎?
It takes greater energy to say no to a kid .
跟孩子說聲不行是要費(fèi)更大的氣力的。
知識(shí)拓展：take energy to do something 花費(fèi)精力做某事，take是“花費(fèi)，付出”的意思。
3 refuse
【Situation 1】
to say that you don't want something that has been offered to you 拒絕，回絕，推卸(提供給你的東西) refuse + something
The job offer is too good to refuse.
這份工作太好了，無法拒絕。
I politely refuse their request.
我婉言回絕了他們的請(qǐng)求。
【Situation 2】
to say that you will not give somebody something that he wants or needs 拒絕(給予某人所需之物)作為這個(gè)意思，可以接雙賓語，結(jié)構(gòu)如下：refuse + somebody + something
They refused him a visa.
他們拒絕給他簽證。
She would never refuse anything to her kids.
她對(duì)孩子百依百順。
【Situation 3】
not do something that somebody has asked you to you 拒絕，回絕(別人叫你去做的事)
Go on, ask her for a date with you tonight; she hardly refuse it.
去吧，去求求她，她不大會(huì)拒絕的。
He firmly refused to discuss this matter.
他斷然拒絕商討這件事兒。firmly refuse 斷然拒絕
She refused to accept there was a problem.
她拒不承認(rèn)有問題存在。
