Last time we learned a sentence pattern which is : It seems unfair that S should do. 此句表達(dá)的意思是：某人的這種情況似乎不公平。此外，句子還含有一種感情色彩，表達(dá)出作者覺得此事“不可思議”的這種感情。

【Exercise I】 你竟然這樣貶低她的工作對她是不公平的。

【Translation 1】It's unfair to her that you should devalue her work like that.

【Translation 2】It's unfair on her to be devalued her work like that.

【點評】

1 短語詳析be unfair on somebody 對于某人不公平 It is unfair on him to make him pay for everything. 要他承擔(dān)一切費用這不公平。devalue someone's work 貶低某人的工作 like that 這樣。

2 翻譯方式：第一句是用主語從句進(jìn)行翻譯，第二句使用動詞不定式進(jìn)行翻譯。

【喇叭】

1 翻譯1和2中都有介詞短語作狀語，它們是：to her 和 on her, 意思都是“對于她來說”。前幾期我們說過了“對于某人來說”在主語從句中用to somebody，在動詞不定式前用 for somebody,但是注意unfair這個詞例外，“對于某人來說不公平”這個短語是be unfair on somebody.

2 英語中說“這樣”“那樣”恰好與我們中文中說的相反，中文說“這樣”，英文是：like that, 中文說“那樣”，英文是：like this.

【Exercise II】他工作如此很辛苦,報酬竟然這等的少,太不公平了。

【Translation 1】It is extremely unfair that he should get very little in reward for his hard work.

【Translation 2】It is extremely unfair on him to get very little in reward for his hard work.

【點評】

1 短語詳析：get very little 得到很少，得到一點兒 in reward 作為報酬 reward for ......的報酬 (這個名詞短語后面的介詞固定是for，不要用of.)for 在這里表示原因，reward for更為詳細(xì)的翻譯是因為什么而得的報酬。通常in reward 和reward for;連在一起用，即：be in reward for. {例句}He received a medal in reward for his bravery. 他因表現(xiàn)勇敢而獲得了一枚獎?wù)? I send him a book in reward for his help . 我送給他一本書來答謝他的幫助。

2 翻譯方式：同第一道習(xí)題。

【Exercise III】 在今天強求教師如此照辦看來好像不公道呀。

【Translation 1】It appears unfair that teachers should be asked of this today.

【Translation 2】It appears unfair on teachers to be asked this of today.

1 短語詳析：ask something of somebody ( = demand something) 要求。{例句}You are asking too much of him. 你對他要求過分了。I know I am asking a great deal. 我知道我的要求很高。I know I'm asking a lot to expect them to win again(= of expecting them to win again). 我知道我期望他們再次獲勝要求太高了。

2 翻譯方式同第一題。

【Exercise IIII】Jane Eyer 深深地感到竟然遭到舅母那樣的對待是很不公平的。

【Translation 1】Jane Eyer felt extremely unfair that she should be treated like this by his aunt from the button of her heart.

【Translation 2】Jane Eyer felt extremely unfair on her to be treated like this by his aunt from the button of her heart.

1 短語詳析：like this 那樣 from the button of one's heart 從某人心底里， 內(nèi)心深處。【短語拓展】deep in one's mind in the privacy of one's thoughts in the dim recesses of one's mind in the inmost recesses of my heart in one's heart of hearts {例句}1 Mary's death had opened a secret fear deep in his mind. Mary一死，他內(nèi)心深處卻冒出了一重憂慮。2 He felt dismayed in the inmost recesses of his heart . 在內(nèi)心深處，他感到非常不安。3 I said I loved her, but in my heart of hearts I knew it wasn't true. 我說我愛她,可是在內(nèi)心深處我知道這不是真的。

1 短語詳析：sentence somebody to something 判決，宣判這個動詞短語中的to是介詞，如果說宣判做某事，則動詞要用動名詞形式，即：sentence somebody to doing something. {例句}He was sentenced to death. 他被判處死刑。He was sentenced to staying three years in prison. 他被判處有期徒刑三年。 In poverty 貧困地 {例句}He languished in poverty for years他多年掙扎在貧困之中.She was cradled in poverty.她幼年生長于窮困的環(huán)境Spend one's lifetime 度過終生。

2 翻譯方式：同第一題。

There exists much unfairness in our life. Because of it some was sentenced to be in prison ; because of it some was sent into a mental illness. So , we'd better say this word to ourselves from time to time which is "Worse off than some,better off than many ". A saying goes, Happy is he who is contented with what he has. " Thus, we can keep our mental state healthy and get a pleasure for our life instead of complaining about those unfairness we cannot let gone. What do you think about unfairness?
