英語早間課堂:S decree (that) S should do.
Last time we learned a sentence pattern which is : S intend that S should do. 這個(gè)句式是表示某人打算(想)做某事。句中的that 和 should可以省略。

2 現(xiàn)在分詞的運(yùn)用：此句中的declining是decline (下降，衰退) 這個(gè)動(dòng)詞的現(xiàn)在分詞，但是它作形容詞。像這一類的形容詞在牛津詞典可以看到是adj.，它是adjective這個(gè)單詞 的縮寫形式，意思是： 形容詞，但是在美國詞典里面還不算為是形容詞。為什么呢?究其根源，像declining這樣的形容詞是跟語法有關(guān)的。英語中有兩種分詞，一種是現(xiàn)在分詞，一類是過去分詞，它們都可以相當(dāng)于形容詞修飾名詞，所以現(xiàn)在在牛津詞典里面把declining這樣的現(xiàn)在分詞和frightened , surprised這樣的過去分詞算作了形容詞，如果是被修飾的名詞主動(dòng)發(fā)出來的這個(gè)動(dòng)詞的動(dòng)作，就用現(xiàn)在分詞;如果是被動(dòng)發(fā)出來的，就用過去分詞。Declining是此句中是被修飾的名詞主動(dòng)發(fā)出的動(dòng)作，說起來，比較抽象，我們可以這樣看，把declining industries這個(gè)名詞短語變成一個(gè)主表關(guān)系的簡單句，即：The industries are declining. 企業(yè)正在走向衰敗。企業(yè)是衰敗的。
3 泛指一類事物的表達(dá)：要泛指一類事物要么就用這個(gè)名詞的單數(shù)形式，要么用其復(fù)數(shù)形式。該句中使用的是industries，是復(fù)數(shù)形式，我們可以把它改為單數(shù)形式an industry. 4 翻譯方式：第1和第2句使用主動(dòng)語態(tài)進(jìn)行翻譯，第3句和第4句則是把第一句和第二句由主動(dòng)語態(tài)改為被動(dòng)語態(tài)。我們說過了將它改為被動(dòng)語態(tài)后，它就成了主語從句。因此我們可以說第三句和第四句是用主語從句進(jìn)行翻譯。
