iv. 原因狀語從句
1. because意為“因?yàn)椤薄?
1）回答why引出的疑問句，只能用because回答。
—Why did you come late?
—Because I missed the bus.
——你為什么來晚了呢？
——因?yàn)槲覜]有趕上公交車。
2）對原因狀語從句強(qiáng)調(diào)時(shí)，只能強(qiáng)調(diào)because引導(dǎo)的狀語從句。
It was because he didn't obey the rule that he was punished.
他正是因?yàn)椴蛔袷匾?guī)章而受了懲罰。
3）在only, just, simple等強(qiáng)調(diào)詞后，只能用because。
He didn't learn English well just because he didn't work hard at it.
他沒有學(xué)好英語只是因?yàn)樗麤]有下功夫?qū)W。
4）與not連用，構(gòu)成并列because分句時(shí)，只能用because。
He didn't come to the party, not because he refused to, but because he was badly ill.
他沒有來參加晚會，不是因?yàn)樗芙^來，而是因?yàn)樗昧酥夭 ?
2. as意為“由于”，語氣比because弱。
As it is going to rain , we'd better hurry up.
由于天要下雨了，我們最好快點(diǎn)吧。
3. since=now that意為“既然”，通常位于句首。
1）since引導(dǎo)的從句總是位于主句前面。
Since you say so , I suppose it is true.
既然你這么說，我就假設(shè)它是真的。
2）表示明顯的原因或事實(shí)。
Since everyone may make mistakes in life , we will give him a chance.
既然每個(gè)人一輩子都會犯錯(cuò)誤，我們就給他一次機(jī)會吧。
3）now that具有時(shí)間概念，所引導(dǎo)的從句中的謂語動詞多為現(xiàn)在時(shí)態(tài)。
Now that you are old enough to judge things, you'd better decide what to do next.
既然你大了能夠做出判斷了，你最好決定下一步做什么吧。
4. for意為“因?yàn)椤薄?
1）經(jīng)常把結(jié)果當(dāng)原因，即用于倒果為因的說法，為主句所說的話提供推斷的理由。
Someone in the house must be ill, for the doctor has just come out .
房子里一定有人病了，因?yàn)獒t(yī)生剛剛從里面出來。
2）for引導(dǎo)的從句只能放在主句后面，而且需要逗號與主句隔開。
He must have seen the film, for he knows so much about it .
他肯定看過那部電影，因?yàn)樗麑δ遣侩娪傲私夂芏唷?
5. in that是復(fù)合連詞，意為“因?yàn)?；在于，在……方面”?
He didn't go abroad for further study in that he couldn't afford to do that.
他沒有出國深造在于他付不起出國的錢。
6. considering that= seeing that意為“既然……；考慮到……”。
Considering that he was badly ill, he shouldn't keep on working so hard.
既然他病的那么重，就不應(yīng)該繼續(xù)那么賣勁兒工作了。
7. 介詞短語+ that
1）on the grounds that ...
He left on the grounds that he was ill.
他以生病為由離開了。
2）for the reason that ...
He cannot be charged with murder for the simple reason that he was not in town when the crime was committed.
他不可能被指控謀殺，原因很簡單：案發(fā)時(shí)他不在城里。
3）by reason that ...
He was not severely punished for his crime by reason that he was very young.
他沒有因其犯罪而受到嚴(yán)厲懲罰因?yàn)樗苣贻p。
4）for fear (that) ...
Shut the window for fear that it may rain.
關(guān)上窗戶以防下雨。
8. 復(fù)合介詞+the fact that ...
1）on account of the fact that ...
On account of the fact that all the trains were delayed, the station was crowded with people.
由于所有火車都晚點(diǎn)了，火車站里擠滿了人。
2）in the view of the fact that ...
We had to speed up in view of the fact that we had no time left.
我們只好加速，因?yàn)槲覀儧]有時(shí)間了。
3）Owing to the fact that ...
Owing to the fact that I had lost his address, I did not know where I could find him.
由于丟了他的地址，我不知道在哪里能找到他。
4）Because of the fact that ...
Because of the fact that they got to the airport too late, they could not buy the tickets they wanted.
由于到機(jī)場太晚，他們未能買到想要的票。
5）Due to the fact that ...
In summer very few visitors travel in Africa due to the fact that the weather is extremely hot.
由于天氣很熱，夏天非洲游客很少。
