And when I came up here with father, she kissed me, and told me to remember the Ninth Commandment, and that God would hear every word that I said.

當(dāng)我和爸爸來(lái)這里的時(shí)候，媽媽親了我，告訴我一定要記得第九誡的內(nèi)容，她說(shuō)我說(shuō)的每個(gè)字上帝都能聽(tīng)到。

"Do you believe this?" asked the judge, while a tear glistened in his eye, and his lip quivered with emotion.

“你相信嗎？”法官問(wèn)，眼中含著晶瑩的淚珠，嘴唇因激動(dòng)而發(fā)顫。

"Yes, sir," said the child, with a voice and manner which showed that her conviction of the truth was perfect.

"God bless you, my child," said the judge, you have a good mother.

“上帝保佑你，我的孩子，”法官說(shuō)，“你有個(gè)好母親。

The witness is competent, he continued. Were I on trial for my life, and innocent of the charge against me, I would pray God for such a witness as this.

作為證人你是勝任的，”他繼續(xù)說(shuō)，如果是我無(wú)辜受審，我也會(huì)禱告上帝派給我這樣一個(gè)證人。

Let her be examined.

你們可以詢問(wèn)她了。

She told her story with the simplicity of a child, as she was; but her voice and manner carried conviction of her truthfulness to every heart.

因?yàn)樗褪莻€(gè)孩子，她用孩子的方式簡(jiǎn)單敘述了她看到的經(jīng)過(guò)，可是她的聲音和態(tài)度令每個(gè)人從心里對(duì)她的話沒(méi)有絲毫疑問(wèn)。

The truth, as spoken by a little child, was sublime.

The little child, for whom a mother had prayed for strength to be given her to speak the truth as it was before God,

broke the cunning device of matured villainy to pieces, like a potter's vessel.

把某些成年人狡猾編織的罪惡擊成了碎片，就像打破陶器一樣。

The strength that her mother prayed for was given her; and the sublime and terrible simplicity, terrible to the prisoner and his associates,—was like a revelation from God himself.

她擁有了母親向神禱告祈求的力量，而她那崇高卻可怕的簡(jiǎn)潔話語(yǔ)，對(duì)犯人和他的同伙來(lái)說(shuō)是可怕的——就像神的啟示一樣。
