New graduates: 應(yīng)屆畢業(yè)生

Looking for work: 找工作

I declined Goldman's offer and decided to run my own startup instead:

My parents don't really understand my decision either:

First year/freshman: 大一

In the fourth year at an American university, do you still attend classes or were you interning and trying to find work?

I didn't attend my fourth year: 我自己沒上大四

Goldman Sachs is famous for its intensely competitive interview process:

What was the hiring process like?

How many rounds of interviews did you go through?

It depends on the position, but generally there are three to four rounds of interviews:

The last round is called a Super Day: 最后一輪面試叫Super Day

Intense:

You submit your resume and specify where you want to work and which position you're applying for:

The first round interview is usually a phone interview:

Analyst: 分析師

I interviewed with someone who was really chill:面試我的人態(tài)度很放松、很友善

Chill: 放松

But it's still an interview format: 但還是一個(gè)面試,不是閑聊

They ask you questions at first, and at the end you ask them questions:

Assume you'll be asked both behavioral and technical questions in the interview:

#1 Behavioral questions:

Those questions are designed to find out about your personality:

They're trying to find out whether they want to work with you:

The behavioral type of questions are mostly about what you wrote on your resume:

For example, why did you take the classes you took?

What kind of activities do you participate on campus?

Why are you interested in us?

These questions vary depending on the position you applied for:

If you're applying for a trader position in an investment bank, you might get questions like what kind of stocks have you been looking at?

What's your Portfolio strategy?

Very real world questions: 很真實(shí)、與現(xiàn)實(shí)接軌的問題

Cramming can only get you so far:臨時(shí)抱佛腳幫助有限

For me, it really started from day one in university:

What's your greatest strength and weakness?

Do interviewers really ask this type of questions?

Totally! 絕對(duì)會(huì)

You have to prepare yourself mentally: 你要先做好思想準(zhǔn)備

Those questions aren't meant to be a test:

They're meant to figure out if you're the type of person that will thrive at their bank:這是用來衡量你是什么樣的人,能不能在投行環(huán)境里成功

30-second pitch about who you are:

Don't overkill it by telling people how perfect you are:

You need to tell a personal story of passion and growth:

For example, in one of my interviews, the interviewer intentionally flipped my resume over:

Then he asked me, “Mr. Perfect, tell me one time things didn't go well.”:

The worst answer to “What's your greatest weakness?” is “I'm a perfectionist.”:

If you answer that, people know it's not a sincere answer:

They want to know if you have honest assessement of yourself:

The key is to be honest about your weaknesses, and show that you have been working to improve on it:
