There were two very stupid robbers. They were robbing an office building. They heard police sirens and got nervous.

The first one said, "Let's jump down to the street." The second one said,"But we're on the thirteenth floor!" The first one screamed back, "This is no time to be superstitious."

Notes:

1. There were two vety stupid robbers.

從前有兩個(gè)很笨的強(qiáng)盜。

thief是指偷偷作案的小偷，而robber是指以暴力搶奪的強(qiáng)盜。

2. They were robbing an office building.

他們正在搶劫一間辦公大樓，

3. They heard police sirens and got nervous.

們聽(tīng)到警笛聲后變得很緊張。

get后面加形容詞表示“變得…” 如：get quiet(變得安靜)。

4. The first one said, "Let's jump down to the street."

第一個(gè)說(shuō)：“我們跑到街上去吧。”

5. The second one said,"But we're on the thirteenth floor!"

第二個(gè)說(shuō)：“但是我們?cè)?3樓啊!”

英美樓層的表達(dá)方式不同，美國(guó)：the first floor(一樓)， the second floor( 二僂)、the third floor( 7樓)，依此類推,：英 國(guó)：the ground floorf (一樓)，the first floor( 二樓)、the second floor(三樓)，依此類推。地下層的表達(dá)方式則相同：地下~樓(the first basement level)。其他依此類推。用于表樓層名稱 時(shí)，floor用來(lái)表示地上的樓層，而level用來(lái)表示地下的樓層。

6. The first one screamed back, "This is no time to be superstitious."

第一個(gè)人大叫著回答：“現(xiàn)在沒(méi)有時(shí)間迷信。”

13這個(gè)數(shù)宇在歐美被視為unlucky thirteen (不吉利的 13),因?yàn)橐d與十二門(mén)徒共進(jìn)最后的晚餐，于是人們就認(rèn)為，如果13個(gè)人一同進(jìn)餐的話，其中一人會(huì)遭遇不幸;又因?yàn)橐d是在13號(hào)星期五被釘在十字架上，所以他們認(rèn)為 每逢13號(hào)又恰好是星期五的話，是最不吉利的日子。美國(guó)的飯店通常沒(méi)有13樓和13號(hào)房間。
