732　worthy，worth while，worthwhile和worth sb.'s while

① worthy是形容詞，除作表語外，還可用作定語，意為“值得的，有價(jià)值的，值得尊敬的”，但不用于表示“錢”，而是表示某物或某事值得做，或者適合做某事，其結(jié)構(gòu)為：

be worthy of+名詞/代詞

be worthy of+動(dòng)名詞被動(dòng)式

be worthy+不定式。

The town is worthy of a visit/to be visited. 那座小城值得去看一看。

The job is not worthy of her. 這項(xiàng)工作配不上她。（這項(xiàng)工作太簡單，而她則是個(gè)很有本領(lǐng)才華的人。）

She is not worthy to be my teacher. 她不配當(dāng)我的老師。

The university has graduated many worthy young people. 這所大學(xué)培養(yǎng)了許多優(yōu)秀的年輕人。

② worth while意為“值得”，worth為形容詞，while為名詞，worth while可以單獨(dú)作表語。在It is worth while…句型中，worth while后可接動(dòng)名詞或不定式。

Buying the book is worth while. 買下那本書是值得的。

It is not worth while our doing. 這不值得我們費(fèi)力去做。

It is worth while making the decision.

做出這項(xiàng)決定是值得的。

③ worthwhile是一個(gè)詞，為形容詞，意為“有價(jià)值的，合算的，值得做的”，可用作表語或定語。

That is a worthwhile book. 那是一本很有價(jià)值的書。

Selling eggs at this price is not worthwhile. 雞蛋賣這個(gè)價(jià)錢不合算。

④ worth sb.'s while意為“值得（費(fèi)事），有好處”。
