這個表達(dá)其實來自于軍隊，它暗指軍事戰(zhàn)斗是一方從另一方奪取領(lǐng)土(ground)這樣一個行為，奪得領(lǐng)土就算是取得了進(jìn)展。相應(yīng)的，失去領(lǐng)土也就是lose ground作為這個習(xí)語的反義詞，意思是遭受挫折，不能繼續(xù)之前的進(jìn)步。
