“打小報(bào)告”不是“small report”，用這一個(gè)單詞就可以

打盹

“打盹”不是真的要“打”，所以它的英語(yǔ)表達(dá)中并沒(méi)有beat一詞。它是指“小睡一會(huì)兒”，用take a catnap來(lái)表示。

Jack takes a catnap every noon.

杰克每天中午都要打個(gè)盹。

這里的“小報(bào)告”可不能直譯為small report，“打小報(bào)告”是指暗地里向領(lǐng)導(dǎo)、老師等告發(fā)別人犯的錯(cuò)誤，應(yīng)該用snitch表示。

None of the colleagues like Mary,because she likes to snitch on others.

同事們都不喜歡瑪麗，因?yàn)樗龕?ài)打別人的小報(bào)告。

湯姆剛下飛機(jī)就和莉莉打了個(gè)照面。

分寸

“分寸”可不能直譯為cent and inch，這個(gè)詞的意思是“合理的行為標(biāo)準(zhǔn)”，可以用social graces來(lái)表示。

Mary behaves with social graces.

瑪麗的行為舉止很有分寸。

A:Mr.Smith is a well-educated gentleman.
