“suit yourself”不是“適合你自己”，千萬(wàn)別弄錯(cuò)了

反身代詞是一種表示反身或強(qiáng)調(diào)的代詞，由第一人稱(chēng)、第二人稱(chēng)形容詞性物主代詞或第三人稱(chēng)人稱(chēng)代詞賓格形式，詞尾加self或selves組成。反身代詞可譯為"本人"、"本身"，為加強(qiáng)語(yǔ)氣，也常譯為"親自"、"自己"。

反身代詞oneself根據(jù)所指詞的人稱(chēng)、性別、單復(fù)數(shù)等的變化可以有 myself, himself, herself, yourself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, themselves等形式。我們比較熟悉、較為常用的是“myself”。

這個(gè)短語(yǔ)有兩個(gè)意思

a.下決心做某事

If you steel yourself to do something, nothing is impossible.

如果你下定決心去做一件事，那什么都是有可能的。

b.堅(jiān)強(qiáng)地面對(duì)某事

You should steel yourself against failure.

面對(duì)失敗，你應(yīng)該堅(jiān)強(qiáng)起來(lái)。

suit yourself

由自己作主，自便

suit作動(dòng)詞除了表示適合，適宜于

還翻譯為對(duì)…方便

所以suit yourself 就翻譯為:自便

Suit yourself if you want to eat dinner now.

如果你現(xiàn)在想吃晚餐，那就請(qǐng)自便吧。

My job has been done. To go or not suit yourself!

我的任務(wù)完成了，去不去隨便你嘍!

行為自然，不做作;做自己

The best thing you can do is to go into the interview and just be yourself.

你最明智的選擇就是進(jìn)去面試時(shí)自然地表現(xiàn)自己。

All you really need is the courage to be yourself.

你所需要的僅僅是去做自己的勇氣。

區(qū)分：

behave yourself

行為規(guī)矩些

Behave yourself or I'll give you a thick ear!

你放規(guī)矩一些，不然我就揍你!

表現(xiàn)好或不好，用well或badly表示

比如：

She always behaves well/badly when her friends come to visit.

每當(dāng)她朋友們來(lái)作客時(shí)，她總是表現(xiàn)很好/很差。

這個(gè)短語(yǔ)通常用于表示不同意某人的觀點(diǎn)

告訴某人不要用自己的意見(jiàn)替大家做主

對(duì)話(huà)：

A:We had a really boring trip.

我們的旅行可真沒(méi)勁。

B:Speak for yourself! I had a wonderful time!

我可不這么想，我玩得很開(kāi)心!

Speak for yourself, but I think you're totally wrong.

把自己封閉起來(lái)，斷絕與……的聯(lián)系

When her husband died she seemed to shut herself off from her friends and family.

There are fewer distractions, and you can really shut yourself off from the stresses of life.
