Todd: So, Kadi, you are from Estonia. Can you talk about gender roles for the new generation compared to the older generation?

托德：卡迪，你來(lái)自愛(ài)沙尼亞。你能說(shuō)說(shuō)新一代人的性別角色與老一輩有什么不同嗎?

Kadi: Yes, in Estonia, we have this kind of Western type of family, a woman doesn't have to be a housewife. She can work. She can do whatever she likes. Even maybe the tendency right now is that women are becoming more masculine. Often it happens that women make more money than men do and they're the ones who bring the bread in the house. Yeah, compared toEastern society where usually women are considered as housewives. They just have to clean and cook and raise the kids, and in my country ... no ... there's not such a thing and I think it always has been like that. I'm not quite sure but.

卡迪：好，愛(ài)沙尼亞是西方式家庭，女性不必做家庭主婦。女性可以出去工作，可以做她喜歡的事情。現(xiàn)在的趨勢(shì)是，有越來(lái)越多的女性開(kāi)始承擔(dān)男性的角色。有很多女性掙得比男性還多，承擔(dān)起養(yǎng)家的責(zé)任。在東方社會(huì)，女性基本上都是家庭主婦。她要打掃屋子、做飯，撫養(yǎng)孩子，可是在我們國(guó)家不是，我想我們國(guó)家的情況一直都是這樣。不過(guò)我不太確定。

Todd: Who does the chores like cooking and cleaning?

托德：那做飯和打掃這樣的家務(wù)活由誰(shuí)做?

Kadi: Yeah, I think we all do it. We don't have that kind of rule that women only have to clean and cook. Of course in some families, it is like that because women are better cleaning, especially, rather than men are, but yeah, men are quite good cooks.

卡迪：我們都會(huì)做。我們沒(méi)有規(guī)定說(shuō)女性只能做打掃和做飯的工作。當(dāng)然在有些家庭，女性的打掃工作比男性做得好，不過(guò)男性做飯也做得很好。

Todd: What do people do for childcare? Like who takes care of the children?

托德：那照顧孩子呢?誰(shuí)來(lái)照顧孩子?

Kadi: Nannies. Yeah. We have nannies for working mothers, they usually like hire people to watch over the children and just they play with them and also like kindergarten, like children start going to kindergarten in Estonia when they're really young, maybe from three months I think even, yeah, you can go to work when your child is like half-a-year old. Just go to work. Take a child there, and people are going to care about her.

卡迪：保姆。職場(chǎng)母親會(huì)請(qǐng)保姆，雇傭保姆來(lái)照顧孩子，和孩子一起玩，在愛(ài)沙尼亞，孩子們很小的時(shí)候就會(huì)被送去幼兒園，大概三個(gè)月左右的孩子就要上幼兒園了，在孩子6個(gè)月大的時(shí)候，媽媽們就可以開(kāi)始上班了。媽媽們?nèi)ド习?，把孩子送去幼兒園，那里有人會(huì)照顧孩子。

Todd: Is the nanny expected to cook and clean as well?

托德：保姆也要做飯和打掃嗎?

Kadi: It depends of on the contract. It depends on the contract. Yeah, if you hire a person who that you say you're gonna pay him or her, usually her, like for cleaning, cooking, taking care of the children, whatever, it depends on the contract.

卡迪：這取決于保姆和雇主簽的合同。這要看合同。如果雇主想雇傭負(fù)責(zé)打掃、做飯和照顧孩子的保姆，要在合同中注明。
