英語(yǔ)中有不少習(xí)語(yǔ)含有國(guó)家的名字，卻有著意想不到的意思，如Dutch uncle（動(dòng)輒訓(xùn)人的人），那么希臘、中國(guó)、法國(guó)這些國(guó)家在英文習(xí)語(yǔ)中又是什么意思呢，一起來(lái)看看吧！

1. It’s all Greek to me

We use this expression when we cannot understand something we read or hear.

當(dāng)我們不理解看到的或聽(tīng)到的某件事時(shí)，可以使用這句表達(dá)。

When you start talking Shakespeare I really get lost. It's all Greek to me. I just cannot understand any of it.

當(dāng)你說(shuō)莎士比亞的時(shí)候，我真得一頭霧水。我完全不懂，我一點(diǎn)都不明白。

2. Go Dutch-分享賬單，AA制

We go Dutch when we go to a restaurant and share the bill.

我們用這個(gè)習(xí)語(yǔ)表示去餐館并且各自結(jié)賬。

"Rachel does not like her male companion to offer her dinner. She always prefers to go Dutch."

3. Dutch Courage

When you need a little alcohol to give you the courage or confidence to do something.

這個(gè)習(xí)語(yǔ)用在你需要一點(diǎn)酒來(lái)壯膽做某事的時(shí)候。

"I think I’ll have a quick drink for Dutch Courage before I ask that girl to dance with me."

4. Talk for England

When someone can talk for hours and hours.

這個(gè)習(xí)語(yǔ)指的是某人可以長(zhǎng)篇大論講很久。

"I’m so sorry I’m late. I couldn’t get away from Linda. She can talk for England!"

“抱歉我遲到了。琳達(dá)太能講了，我實(shí)在脫不開(kāi)身。”

5. Pardon My French (UK)

We use this expression before or after we have said something rude, for example, a swear word.

在我們說(shuō)了粗魯?shù)脑?，比如臟話之前或之后，可以用這句。

6. Slow Boat to China

We use this expression to describe something that is very slow and takes a long time.

這句習(xí)語(yǔ)用來(lái)描述做某件事需要花費(fèi)很長(zhǎng)的時(shí)間。

"Waiting for the architects to produce their plans was like taking the slow boat to China."

“等待建筑師們的設(shè)計(jì)計(jì)劃需要花費(fèi)很長(zhǎng)時(shí)間。
