今天再次讀到這個(gè)故事，不由得滿滿的感慨。但不一樣的是，今天講述的是這個(gè)“鐵杵磨成針”從另外的角度讓我們學(xué)會(huì)更加客觀地看待“堅(jiān)持”二字。

New Words:

persistence n.堅(jiān)持; 鍥而不舍;

persist in 堅(jiān)持;

persistent adj.不屈不撓的; 堅(jiān)持不懈的;

embroidery n.繡花;刺繡品;

endurance n.忍耐力; 耐久力;

pay off 取得成功，得到好結(jié)果，贏利;

Once there was mother who taught her son:

從前有個(gè)媽媽教訓(xùn)她的兒子說(shuō)：

Persistence is the basis of success. Anything can be accomplished so long as you seriously persist
in doing it.

有恒心為成功之本，凡事只要堅(jiān)持認(rèn)真去做必能得到成果。

So long as you are persistent, even a big iron rod can be turned into a small needle for embroidery.

只要有恒心，鐵杵也能磨成繡花針。

Twenty years later...

二十年后

Look! The iron rod is now a needle. This proves that so long as there is endurance there is no ambitious goal that cannot be reached.

瞧!鐵杵磨成針證明只要有毅力沒(méi)有任何事不能達(dá)成。

You invested your valuable years of youth, but your only accomplishment is a small needle.

但成果只是一根繡花針，失去的卻是整個(gè)青春。

There is nothing wrong with turning an iron rod into a needle, but a small return on a major investment does not pay off.

鐵杵磨針固然沒(méi)錯(cuò)，但用功既重所期甚輕,失去的比得到的還多。
