這周公布的蘇塞克斯公爵夫人問候公眾的一個(gè)視頻表明,梅根習(xí)得了英式口音。雖然只有微小的改變,但我們還是可以從梅根的語調(diào)中聽出一點(diǎn)兒標(biāo)準(zhǔn)英語的味道。
“You can hear some sounds changing, yes,” confirms speech and dialect coach John Fleming. “Some examples can be heard in her R sounds at the end of syllables .“
你可以聽出梅根的一些音調(diào)變了,的確如此,”演講兼方言教師約翰·弗萊明證實(shí)道。“比如從她發(fā)某個(gè)音節(jié)末尾的R音中我們就可以聽出來。”
In recent clips, those Rs are lighter than the typical general American accent. She is also using the British English vowel normally heard in the word ‘thought’ in the phrase ‘We all had a nice day’, in the word ‘all’.”
在最近的幾段視頻剪輯中,梅根在發(fā)這樣的R音的時(shí)候要比她一貫的美式口音輕一些。她還使用了英式元音,我們通常會(huì)在她說‘thought’(認(rèn)為)這個(gè)詞以及說“we all had a nice day”(我們都度過了愉快的一天)這句話中的‘all’的時(shí)候能聽出她使用英式元音。
People changing accents is often criticised as a sign of in authenticity. Madonna, for example, was ridiculed when she started talking like her former husband Guy Ritchie.
人們改變口音經(jīng)常會(huì)被指責(zé)為不可信的象征。例如,麥當(dāng)娜開始像她的前夫蓋伊·里奇那樣講話的時(shí)候就被取笑了。
But dialect coach Pamela Vander way explains that a change in accent is unavoidable when you start life in a new country.
但是,方言教師帕梅拉·萬德維表示,當(dāng)你開始在一個(gè)新的國家生活的時(shí)候,口音的改變是不可避免的。
“It’s absolutely normal for a human being to take on the accent of the people around them when they want to belong to that group.”
“當(dāng)人們想要融入一個(gè)群體的時(shí)候,他們學(xué)會(huì)周圍人的口音是非常正常的。”
“Accents are one of the ways human beings identify as being part of a group. [In] Meghan’s situation, she is representing the royal family, so she’s part of England. So there’s a particular pull for her to take on that way of speaking [and] she may or may not be taking it on consciously.”
“口音是人們被確定為某個(gè)團(tuán)體的一份子的一種方式??紤]到梅根的處境,她如今代表的是英國皇室,所以她是英國的一份子。因此有一股特殊的牽引力促使她用這樣的方式講話,而且她也許并非有意為之。”
Plus, there’s the matter of the duchess being a trained actor. “She likely has had to work in accents before, British or otherwise. This means that her mouth is a little bit more malleable , and so – in the same way that you might pick up a bit of southern US accent on a trip to Georgia – she has picked up some British English sounds after being immersed in the culture and surrounded by various UK accents.”
此外,梅根是一位接受過專業(yè)培訓(xùn)的演員。“她以前可能不得不在工作中講英式口音或其他方言。這意味著她的嘴巴有更強(qiáng)的適應(yīng)能力,就像你去喬治亞州旅行的時(shí)候你可能就會(huì)學(xué)會(huì)點(diǎn)美國南方口音,而她沉浸在各式各樣的英音環(huán)境及文化中她也會(huì)學(xué)會(huì)一些英式口音。”
So even if the duchess begins to sound more British, it’s not a question of abandoning her California dialect, but more a willingness to adapt and to belong with her new family.
所以即使梅根的口音聽起來更像英國人,這也不是她拋棄了她的加利福尼亞方言,而是她更愿意去適應(yīng),去融入她的新家庭。
