anything but與nothing but

　　The party was anything but a success. 晚會(huì)根本不成功。

　　The fight is anything but finished. 斗爭(zhēng)絕沒(méi)有結(jié)束。

　　The hotel was anything but satisfactory. 這家旅館一點(diǎn)不讓人滿意。

　　注anything but 有時(shí)可單獨(dú)使用。如：

　　I don’t mean he’s lazy—anything but! 我不是說(shuō)他懶，他根本不懶。

　　注anything but不僅可用于事物，也可用于人。如：

　　He is anything but a poet. 他絕不是詩(shī)人。

　　He was anything but polite. 他根本沒(méi)有一點(diǎn)禮貌。

　　2. nothing but也是習(xí)語(yǔ)，意為“僅僅”“只”。如：

　　He’s nothing but a criminal. 他只不過(guò)是個(gè)罪犯。

　　He dreams of nothing but going home. 他只想回家。

　　There is nothing but some waste paper in the desk. 課桌里只有些廢紙。

　　He has nothing but praise for the managers at his company. 對(duì)他公司的經(jīng)理們他只是一味地贊美。
