Then, the excavation took an unexpected turn.

Scientists uncovered a second set of remains nearthe adult stegasaurus.

科學家們在一個成年劍龍附近發(fā)現(xiàn)了第二具骨骸。

It was a second stegasaurus.

是另一頭劍龍。

But this one was a baby.

不過這是一頭幼劍龍。

James Madsen Jr. is one of the original scientistsinvolved in excavating the site.

詹姆斯.麥迪森二世是在最早進行現(xiàn)場挖掘的科學家之一。

There were probably three or four Stegosaurs in there.

在那里有大概三、四頭劍龍。

One that stands out, uh, that's the small end of the spectrum.

It's a smaller animal.

And it looks like it's injured.

It has a wound of some kind or another.

Not one, but two stegasaurus, an adult and a baby, had somehow died here.

Shallow bite marks found on the hip bones and ribs suggested that the baby had been attackedby a mid-sized predator.

在幼劍龍的髖骨和肋骨上有較淺的咬痕這表明它受到過中等大小的掠食者攻擊。

But the wounds would pale in comparison to what they were about to find.

不過跟人們即將要發(fā)現(xiàn)的相比這些傷口就不算什么了。

A second species was identified.

This one was 100 meters away from the two stegasaurus.

它就在離這兩頭劍龍一百米處。

The remains belonged to a titan of the Jurassic world - a long necked dinosaur namedCamarasaurus.

這幅骨骸屬于侏羅紀世界的巨獸一種叫圓頂龍的長頸恐龍。

Camarasaurus was the first dinosaur that showed that there were giant animals,

bigger than elephants with these long necks, heads full of plant-eating teeth, enormoussturdy legs and gigantic tails.

And that these things once roamed the earth in great numbers.

They were the most common long-necked dinosaurs of the late Jurassic period.

They could grow to six meters tall at the hips, eighteen meters in length and tipped the scalesat twenty tons, nine times the mass of an elephant.

Attacking a dinosaur this size would be like attacking a building.

Camarasaurus had evolved to dominate its environment.

Camarasaurus was very successful because it could feed from a variety of ranges.

It could feed low at the ground.

It could feed at about its shoulder height.

And it may have been able to rear its head up on this long neck to feed high up in the trees.

By having this big wide range, it could find food in all sorts of environments.
