If this be so, fancy the irresistibleness of that might, to which the most impalpable and destructive of all elements contributes.

如果這個臆測是對的話，那么，請想一想那種最難解而又最具有破壞力的種種原質(zhì)所提供的那種無法抗拒的威力吧。

Now, mark. Unerringly impelling this dead, impregnable, uninjurable wall, and this most buoyant thing within;

I trust you will have renounced all ignorant incredulity, and be ready to abide by this;

我相信你就會摒棄一切無知的懷疑，隨時都會堅持這種看法了；

that though the Sperm Whale stove a passage through the Isthmus of Darien, and mixed the Atlantic with the Pacific,

you would not elevate one hair of your eye-brow.

你也準會絕不動容。

For unless you own the whale, you are but a provincial and sentimentalist in Truth.

因為除非你承認了大鯨的價值，否則，在真理方面，你就不過是個思想狹隘者和感傷主義者而已。

But clear Truth is a thing for salamander giants only to encounter;
