All four boats were now in keen pursuit of that one spot of troubled water and air. But it bade far to outstrip them; it flew on and on, as a mass of interblending bubbles borne down a rapid stream from the hills.

這會兒，四只小艇都在騷亂的?？障旅娴哪莻€地方進行激烈追擊。但是，要趕上它們卻是不大有希望，它們象一大團混雜的氣泡不住地飄去，從山岡上直瀉向一條急流。

"Pull, pull, my good boys," said Starbuck, in the lowest possible but intensest concentrated whisper to his men; while the sharp fixed glance from his eyes darted straight ahead of the bow, almost seemed as two visible needles in two unerring binnacle compasses. He did not say much to his crew, though, nor did his crew sayanything to him. Only the silence of the boat was at intervals startlingly pierced by one of his peculiar whispers, now harsh with command, now soft with entreaty.

“劃呀，劃呀，好伙伴們，”斯達巴克盡量以壓得很低，而又非常集中的聲氣對他的水手悄悄地說；他那雙直投向艇頭正前方的炯炯有神的眼睛，簡直就象兩只不動不變的羅盤上兩支明亮的指針。他沒有對他的水手多說什么，他的水手也沒有對他說什么。只有他那特別的耳語聲不時地劃破小艇的沉寂氣氛，一會兒是粗暴的命令聲，一會兒又是輕聲細氣的懇求聲。

And so shouting, he pulled his hat from his head, and stamped up and down on it; then picking it up, flirted it far off upon the sea; and finally fell to rearing and plunging in the boat's stern like a crazed colt from the prairie.

那個吵吵鬧鬧的小中柱又顯得多么不同呵。“大聲叫出來，說些什么吧，勇敢的伙伴們！叫呀，劃呀，大膽漢子們！把我拖上去呀，把我拖到它們的黑背上去，伙伴們。只要給我做這件事，我就把我那塊馬爾撒的維因耶德的種植園都立約交給你們，伙伴們，包括我的老婆兒子在內(nèi)，伙伴們。把我放上去呀！把我放上去！天啊，天！我真要發(fā)狂嘍！瞧呀！瞧那白水！”這樣叫嚷過后，他把頭上的帽子拉下來，用腳不斷地踩著；接著又撿了起來，倏地把它扔得老遠，扔在海上；最后竟自己在船梢倒豎起來，象匹來自大草原的發(fā)狂小馬。

"Look at that chap now," philosophically drawled Stubb, who, with his unlighted short pipe, mechanically retained between his teeth, at a short distance, followed after--"He's got fits, that Flask has. Fits? yes, give him fits--that's the very word--pitch fits into 'em. Merrily, merrily, hearts-alive. Pudding for supper, you know;-- merry's the word. Pull, babes--pull, sucklings--pull, all. But what the devil are you hurrying about?

“你們看那家伙，”斯塔布冷靜而慢吞吞地說，他那支沒有點著的小煙斗，還無意識地咬著，隔了一會兒，又接下去說，“他發(fā)作了，弗拉斯克老毛病發(fā)作了。發(fā)作了嗎？讓他發(fā)去吧！就是這句話，叫他發(fā)個痛快吧。高興呀，高興呀。勇敢的伙伴們。晚飯吃布丁啦，你們可知道；真高興呀。劃呀，小娃娃們！劃呀，年輕的小伙子們！劃呀，大伙兒?？墒牵銈兙烤辜毙┦裁囱?？
