為什么不行?

Several reasons prevent us from doing this.

我們無能為力，原因諸多。

For one thing, ozone in large quantities is extremelyhazardous and volatile, which makes it hard to workwith, to say the least.

要知道，大量的臭氧是有害且易揮發(fā)的。因此，至少不便于我們運作。

Also, the ozone layer is immense-there's roughly twenty billion tons of it-and we'd have noway of handling such large quantities.

此外，臭氧層是密集的，大約有200億噸，我們無法操作如此龐大的臭氧。Plus, the ozone layer requires a hugeamount of energy to maintain itself, which right now it gets from the sun.

再者，維護穩(wěn)定的臭氧層需要不少能量，而這些目前來自太陽能。

Taking over natural ozone production would require more than double the energy the UnitedStates produces annually.

That's a lot of rolling blackouts.

And that’s why the only way we know to fight ozone depletion is by cleaning up our act andgiving nature the chance to take its course.
