If you're not already convinced that regular exerciseis important to stay healthy, now there is yet anotherreason to break a sweat, especially if you're awoman: breast cancer.

Several studies have linked exercise to lowering therisk of developing breast cancer.

一些研究發(fā)現(xiàn)運動能降低患乳腺癌的風險。

Considering that breast cancer is the second mostcommon cancer among women, these findings are nothing to shrug about.

考慮到乳腺癌是女性的第二常見癌癥,這些發(fā)現(xiàn)沒有什么可以規(guī)避的。

First, regular exercise reduces the risk of breast cancer by helping women to maintain a healthyand consistent body weight.

Post-menopausal women who havegained more than twenty pounds since the age of eighteen are forty percent more likely todevelop breast cancer.

Women who gain seventy or more pounds in their adult years are eighty percent more likely todevelop breast cancer.

Another study suggests that the correlation between breast cancer and body weight may havemuch to do with female hormones produced by body fat.

Higher levels of estrogen, as well as testosterone, have been demonstrated to increase one's riskof developing breast cancer.

However, exercise significantly reduces the levels of these hormones by burning body fat, whichproduces the hormones.

So the more you exercise, the more fat you burn, hence the lower your hormone levels, andthe lower your risk of developing breast cancer.

How much exercise is necessary?

Just thirty minutes of exercise each day or three to four hours a week could lower one's risk ofbreast cancer by about twenty percent.

只要每天鍛煉30鐘或一個星期三至四小時就能夠降低20%患乳腺癌的幾率。

And exercising more than four hours a week may further lower your risk.

而一個星期鍛煉4個多小時可能會進一步降低你的風險。

Keep in mind, however, that no amount of exercise can guarantee you won't develop cancer.

不過,要記住,不是再多的運動就可以保證你不會患上癌癥。

Certain risk factors such as genetic make-up and environmental exposures areuncontrollable.
