精靈鼠小弟 第80期:約會(huì)時(shí)刻到來

The afternoon lying around camp, trying on different shirts to see which looked best on him and combing his whiskers.

一下午，他都在他的營地試穿不同的襯衫，想知道哪一件穿起來更帥，他還不停地用梳子梳他的胡子。

He would no sooner get a clean shirt on than he would discover that it was wet under the arms, from nervous perspiration, and he would have to change it for a dry one.

可是他最后穿上的那件襯衫后來卻被弄臟了，因?yàn)橛捎谔o張，腋下的汗把它弄濕了，于是他只好又換上一件干的。

He put on a clean shirt at two o'clock, another at three o'clock, and another at quarter past four.

他在兩點(diǎn)鐘換了一件干凈的襯衫，在三點(diǎn)鐘又換了一件，在四點(diǎn)十五分則又換了一件。

This took up most of the afternoon.

下午剩下的時(shí)間就這么被用掉了。

As five o'clock drew near, Stuart grew more and more nervous.

馬上就到五點(diǎn)鐘了，斯圖亞特心里越來越緊張。

He kept looking at his watch, glancing up the path, combing his hair, talking to himself, and fidgeting.

他不停地看著表，往小路那里瞅，梳理頭發(fā)，自言自語，心煩意亂。

The day had turned chilly and Stuart was almost sure that there was going to be rain.

天色越來越陰，斯圖亞特想一定是快下雨了。

He couldn't imagine what he would do if it should rain just as Harriet Ames showed up to gocanoeing.

他不知道如果他和哈麗雅特劃船時(shí)天下起雨該怎么辦。

At last five o'clock arrived.

最后，五點(diǎn)鐘終于到了。

Stuart heard someone coming down the path.

斯圖亞特聽到有人走過來的聲音。

It was Harriet.

正是哈麗雅特。

She had accepted his invitation.

她已經(jīng)接受了他的邀請。

Stuart threw himself down against a stump and tried to strike an easy attitude, as though he were accustomed to taking girls out.

斯圖亞特倚在樹樁旁，盡量裝出一副悠閑的樣子，好像他常和女孩子約會(huì)一樣。

He waited till Harriet was within a few feet of him, then got up.

他一直等到哈麗雅特來到身邊才起身。
