科特路張開了手，一把玉米面白森森躺在他手掌里，他對(duì)著玉米面呼出一口氣，喃喃地說(shuō)了幾句，把那白色的粉末對(duì)著太陽(yáng)撒去。

季雅紀(jì)美也這樣做。
Then Khakimé's father stepped forward, and holding up a feathered prayer stick, made a longprayer, then threw the stick after the corn meal.
然后季雅紀(jì)美的父親也走上前來(lái)，舉起一根帶羽翎的祈禱杖，做了一個(gè)很長(zhǎng)的祈禱，然后把那祈禱杖也隨著玉米面扔了出去。
"It is finished," said old Mitsima in a loud voice. "They are married."
禮成，”米季馬大聲說(shuō)，“他們倆結(jié)婚了。”
"Well," said Linda, as they turned away, "all I can say is, it does seem a lot of fuss to makeabout so little. "
“禮成了，”人們轉(zhuǎn)過(guò)身來(lái)，琳妲說(shuō)，“我能夠說(shuō)的只有一句話：這的確好像是小題大做。”

At the full moon, in the Antelope Kiva, secrets would be told, secrets would be done and borne.
在月亮團(tuán)圓的日子，羚羊圣窟里常有人傾訴秘密。
They woud go down, boys, into the kiva and come out again, men.
完成秘密和產(chǎn)生秘密。人們到那兒去，到羚羊圣窟去，去時(shí)是孩子，回來(lái)變做了成人。
The boys were all afraid and at the same time impatient.
男孩都害怕，卻又渴望，那一天終于來(lái)了。
And at last it was the day. The sun went down, the moon rose. He went with the others.
太陽(yáng)落了山，月亮升了起來(lái)。他跟別人去了。
Men were standing, dark, at the entrance to the kiva; the ladder went down into the redlighted depths.
幾個(gè)男人的黑影站在圣窟門口，梯子往下伸到了紅燈照著的深處。
Already the leading boys had begun to climb down.
帶頭的幾個(gè)男孩已經(jīng)開始往下爬。
Suddenly, one of the men stepped forward, caught him by the arm, and pulled him out of theranks.
一個(gè)男人突然走了出來(lái)，抓住了胳臂把他拖出了行列。
He broke free and dodged back into his place among the others.
他掙脫之后又回到行列里去。
This time the man struck him, pulled his hair.
這一回那人摸了他，扯了他的頭發(fā)。
"Not for you, white-hair!" "Not for the son of the she-dog," said one of the other men.
“你沒有資格，白毛!”“那母狗下的崽沒有資格!”有個(gè)人說(shuō)，
The boys laughed. "Go!"
男孩子們笑了。“滾!”
And as he still hovered on the fringes of the group, "Go!" the men shouted again.
因?yàn)樗栽谌巳哼叾毫?，不肯離開，人們又叫了起來(lái)。
One of them bent down, took a stone, threw it.
有人彎下腰揀起石頭扔他。
"Go, go, go!" There was a shower of stones.
“滾，滾，滾!”石頭像雨點(diǎn)一樣飛來(lái)。
Bleeding, he ran away into the darkness. From the red-lit kiva came the noise of singing.
他流著血逃到了陰暗處。紅燈照耀的圣窟里歌唱開始了。
The last of the boys had climbed down the ladder. He was all alone.
最后的男孩已經(jīng)爬下梯子。他完全孤獨(dú)了。
All alone, outside the pueblo, on the bare plain of the mesa.
在印第安人村莊外面光禿禿的石源平頂上，他完全孤獨(dú)了。
The rock was like bleached bones in the moonlight.
月光下的巖石像漂白了的骷髏。
Down in the valley, the coyotes were howling at the moon.
高崖下的山谷里郊狼在對(duì)著月亮嚎叫。
The bruises hurt him, the cuts were still bleeding; but it was not for pain that he sobbed;
他受傷的地方很疼，傷口還在流血。他抽泣，
it was because he was all alone, because he had been driven out, alone, into this skeletonworld of rocks and moonlight.
并非因?yàn)橥?，而是因?yàn)楣陋?dú)。他一個(gè)人被趕了出來(lái)，進(jìn)入了像骷髏一樣的巖石和月光的世界。
At the edge of the precipice he sat down.
他在懸崖邊上背著月光坐下了。
